Frankie-Rae Law was just 11 years old when he died in front of his family, hours after a local GP dismissed his condition as nothing more than a viral infection. The tragedy unfolded at the family's home in Braintree, Essex, in the early hours of Saturday, November 15, 2025.

According to his mother, Keleigh Law, Frankie-Rae had complained of a sore throat on Friday, November 14. Concerned, she took him to the doctor, but was told it was "just a virus."

Later that night, he appeared to be in good spirits. "I was in the living room just on my phone and he was coming in, messing around and joking with me again," Keleigh recalled. But at 1:43 a.m., everything changed.

"He was gasping for air like he had something stuck in it," she said. "He told me 'I can't breathe.' He is pacing up and down because he was so scared and within two minutes he went eerily silent." Concerned, Keleigh followed her son to the bathroom and found him slumped over the toilet, unresponsive. She explained:

"His lips were grey, his eyes were glazed over and I was shaking him to wake him up."

Her mother arrived moments later and performed CPR for 30 minutes, managing to revive Frankie-Rae but only briefly. His lips turned pink, his eyes opened, and a bit of spit came out. But he quickly lost consciousness again.

Emergency crews then arrived and attempted to resuscitate him. Paramedics moved him to the living room and applied defibrillator pads, but they could not be used as there was no heart rhythm.

"They kept pumping his chest — there were eight paramedics, police, the hearts team," said Keleigh. "They said there was a pulse there but there was no heart rhythm." Frankie-Rae was eventually taken to hospital, where doctors continued efforts to save him.

Sadly, after conducting an MRI of his heart, the medical team delivered the devastating news. "Doctors told me there is nothing there and asked if I wanted to sit and hold his hand while they turned the ventilator off," Keleigh revealed.

"I sat with him, held his hand and kissed him while he passed away at 3:30 a.m. in the early hours of Saturday." Still reeling from the loss, Keleigh shared her heartbreak, "I just want to be with my son. I feel like I failed him. He was my best friend."

Described as a "lovable child" with a smile that "lit up a room," Frankie-Rae's death has prompted an outpouring of grief from friends, strangers, and members of the wider community.

A memorial area has been set up at his school, which Keleigh said has been "amazing" throughout the ordeal. "There's over 40 bunches of flowers, teddies, and cards given by schools," she stated.
