Cynthia Erivo has landed her second Golden Globe nomination in a row for Best Performance by a Female Actor in a Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy, thanks to her leading role in "Wicked: For Good."

The nod not only honors her performance but also places the English actress-singer in the Golden Globes record books.

Erivo is up against an impressive field in 2026: Amanda Seyfried for "The Testament of Ann Lee," Chase Infiniti for "One Battle After Another," Emma Stone for "Bugonia," Kate Hudson, "Song Sung Blue," and Rose Byrne for "If I Had Legs I'd Kick You."

Erivo was previously nominated in the same category, making her the first Black woman to be recognized twice in the musical or comedy lead actress category, according to the Los Angeles Times. The award has existed since 1951, when the Golden Globes first split acting honors by genre.

The news sparked plenty of conversation online. On Facebook, netizens were torn. "Why comedy ? How about voice , drama and beauty ❤️," one asked.

A second wrote, "As she should, but comedy? Idk about that. The 'Wicked' movies were only comedic in certain parts. Vocals and acting, absolutely." Praise for Erivo's talent was just as strong. "She is an extremely talented person. Doubt there isn't anything she couldn't do," one fan raved.

Another commenter took a broader view, pointing to a history of overlooked performances: "Angela Bassett was robbed for What's Love Got To Do With It [sic]."

Winners of the 2026 Golden Globe Awards will be announced early next year.
