Two Legends, One Final Exchange

The friend was none other than Eric Idle, the celebrated actor and comedian most famously known for his work in the "Monty Python" franchise. Like many in moments of loss, Idle turned to social media to express his heartbreak.

In the early hours of Monday morning, Eric took to X. He referred to Rob as a "lovely man," and revealed that they had spent several hours talking the previous night, that is, Saturday, just hours before Rob's death.

"I always enjoyed his company. I met him at his Dad's in 1975. He was telling me about filming at Stonehenge and his thoughts for the future," Idle wrote.

Calling the tragedy "awful," Eric said he would miss Rob deeply, especially for his cleverness, thoughtfulness, and of course, his immense talent.

Rob Reiner's body of work reads like a list of American cinema classics. He directed unforgettable titles such as "This Is Spinal Tap," "Misery," "Stand by Me," "When Harry Met Sally," and "The Princess Bride," all of which left an indelible mark on the industry.

According to multiple sources speaking to People magazine, the couple's daughter, Romy Reiner, was the one who made the horrific discovery. The same sources alleged that their son, Nick Reiner, was responsible.

The Los Angeles Police Department's (LAPD) Robbery-Homicide Division is investigating the case. According to TMZ, law enforcement said that the victims suffered lacerations consistent with a knife attack, a chilling detail that has stunned Hollywood.

Nick has spoken openly in the past about his struggle with addiction, which inspired the 2016 semi-autobiographical film "Being Charlie."

In a People interview that year, he described periods of homelessness in several states after refusing to return to rehab. "I spent nights on the street. I spent weeks on the street. It was not fun," he said. His time living in and out of shelters helped shape the film's narrative.

Shock Investigation Into Reiner Deaths Begins

As of Sunday evening, the LAPD confirmed that no suspects have been identified in the deaths of Rob and Michele. The investigation remains in its earliest stages, with detectives moving cautiously but deliberately as they begin piecing together what happened inside the couple's Brentwood home.

At a press conference, LAPD Deputy Chief Alan Hamilton told reporters that investigators are beginning to coordinate with family members to "get to the facts of this investigation."

A law enforcement official reportedly said that one family member was interviewed Sunday evening, but emphasized that no one has been detained or named as a suspect.

Hamilton also said detectives are waiting on the legal process to obtain a search warrant. "Once that is complied with, we will be conducting a full crime scene investigation on the interior and exterior of the residence and the surrounding neighborhood," he said.
