Bijou Phillips Hospitalized at 45 - Details
A sudden hospitalization has placed the actress back under close medical watch. But what she is facing now is far more serious than most may realize.
Bijou Phillips, 45, is currently under medical care at UCLA Health. She is said to be in stable condition, but representatives have made it clear this is not a minor setback.
This time, her need for help is so urgent that she's taken to Instagram with a public plea. But to understand why this moment feels so heavy, you have to rewind years.
A Fragile Start That Never Fully Left
Phillips was born with underdeveloped kidneys and spent the first three months of her life in the NICU on dialysis. Kidney disease has followed her ever since.
As the daughter of John Phillips from The Mamas and the Papas, she grew up in a complicated spotlight.

In a past interview with The Guardian, she reflected on her father, saying, "My dad was a great dad. An awesome dad. He had his own problems. He took custody of me, he took me to school every single day, made me breakfast, picked me up, made me dinner."
While the public focused on her upbringing and Hollywood presence, her health remained a private struggle.
The First Time She Asked for a Miracle
In 2017, Phillips revealed she needed a kidney transplant. Her representative confirmed to People at the time that she had "been quietly dealing with kidney disease for the last five years, including being on the transplant list."
She tried to manage her condition naturally, adopting a stress-free life and a vegan diet. But eventually, dialysis became unavoidable. Then something extraordinary happened.
A close friend was found to be a match, and she underwent a transplant that same year. The surgery gave her eight years of stability and precious time with her daughter.
So, for nearly a decade, it seemed like the crisis had passed. But something lurked in her body.
The Complication Few People Talk About
Transplant patients must suppress their immune systems to prevent rejection of the new organ. Unfortunately, that protection can also allow certain viruses to reactivate.
One of them is the BK virus. According to the National Kidney Foundation, it is a common virus most people contract during childhood. It usually stays dormant in the body and causes no issues.
But in people with weakened immune systems, it can wake up and lead to serious issues, especially in kidney transplant recipients.
Phillips later revealed she experienced "many complications" after her transplant, including the BK virus. The infection ultimately led to both cellular and antibody rejection.
That would have devastating consequences.
The Reality She Is Facing Now
On February 11, 2026, TMZ reported that Phillips was hospitalized and back on dialysis. The kidney she received in 2017 had officially failed.
Though she remains in stable condition, her representative emphasized, "Time is of the essence." She is currently under the care of Dr. Anjay Rastogi at UCLA as she waits for her next steps.
And what comes next is the part that changes everything.
A Mother's Urgent Plea
The same day the news broke, Phillips shared a deeply personal message on Instagram.
"I need help finding a kidney," she wrote. "I'm asking as a friend, a sister, an aunt, and, most importantly, a single mother to an incredible and brave daughter."
In her post, she went on to explain her medical history and that the transplant she received in 2017 gave her "8 precious years" as a mother to Fianna Francis Masterson, whom she shares with actor Danny Masterson.
Now, she is asking for another chance, actively searching for a living donor willing to go through testing and evaluation. The process is detailed and careful, but for her, the urgency is clear.
In her caption, she added that anyone interested can go to a link in her bio to fill out a form. "I am so grateful for your support. ❤️," Phillips wrote.
After all this time with a transplanted kidney, she is hoping once again for a miracle. But this time, she is not keeping the fight private.
