On a quiet Thursday morning in Gates, New York, a young family's routine drive was about to be shattered by something no parent could ever prepare for.

On March 5, 2026, Jake and Kelly Carpenter had their 6-month-old son, Noah Carpenter, secured in his car seat in the back of their white SUV when they came to a stop at the traffic light at Buffalo Road and Howard Road.

But soon after, life as they knew it would be over because of another driver's actions.

The Moment Everything Changed

The Carpenter family was following the rules of the road and waiting their turn to safely cross onto Howard.

But without warning, a black SUV came barreling into the intersection at high speed and slammed into the back of their vehicle.

The collision was so violent that both SUVs sustained heavy damage, a utility pole came crashing down onto the striking car, and everyone inside both vehicles was left "trapped" in the wreckage, according to a press release from the Gates Police Department.

By the time Gates Police, Fire, and Ambulance crews arrived at the scene at approximately 10:15 a.m., the full scale of the devastation became clear.

Firefighters worked to free all four individuals from the damaged vehicles before paramedics rushed everyone to Strong Memorial Hospital.

But for one member of the Carpenter family, there was nothing more that could be done. Baby Noah had been carefully removed from his car seat by firefighters at the scene and rushed to the same clinic for treatment.

Sadly, he passed away from his injuries that morning.

His parents, meanwhile, continued fighting for their lives. Jake had suffered a serious injury to his aorta and required emergency surgery. Kelly's situation was even more dire: she had sustained a severe traumatic brain injury and also underwent an urgent operation.

According to the family, "Jake is expected to make a full recovery, but Kelly remains in critical condition." As of March 9, Jake had been upgraded to satisfactory condition, while Kelly remained in guarded condition at Strong Memorial.

A Family Held Up by Thousands

Word of the tragedy spread quickly, and the response from the community was nothing short of overwhelming.

Just two days after the crash, a friend of the family, Laura McGlynn, launched a GoFundMe to help the Carpenters through the unimaginable.

The fundraiser described the crash as a moment that left the family's SUV with "severe damage," and laid out exactly where every dollar would go:

"Giving sweet Noah a proper burial and funeral service, helping cover medical bills from this tragic accident, and assisting with any additional expenses the family faces during this incredibly difficult time."

Within just 24 hours of launching, more than 1,500 people had donated over $110,000. By Monday afternoon, that number had already climbed past $140,000, eventually surpassing $169,000 raised toward a $200,000 goal, with nearly 2,400 donations and counting.

But the grief for what has been lost and the uncertainty regarding the health of Jake and Kelly has affected all those close to them.

Jake's mother, Diana Carpenter, shared the GoFundMe campaign while also expressing her grief on Facebook, "We are all totally devastated. [...] My heart is broken beyond words."

The outpouring didn't stop there. On March 8, family friend Brenda Robinson Adam also shared on Facebook how she had gathered her children and loved ones for a breakfast in honor of Kelly, Jake, and Noah, describing Kelly as someone who "grew up" with her children.

She wrote that those gathered paused to send love and well wishes to both parents, still in the ICU at the time, before turning their thoughts to Noah. "We raised our glasses to remember sweet baby Noah that was taken way too soon," she wrote. "We never had the chance to meet him but we all loved him already."

She also reflected on how the tragedy had reframed everything for those around her, adding that the moment had brought her Palmer Road community even closer together. "Life can change in a split second," she wrote, urging others to never take people or moments for granted.

The Gates Police Department continues to investigate the fatal crash. Anyone with information or who witnessed the collision is asked to contact Gates Police at (585) 247-2262 or email tips@townofgatesny.gov.

As Kelly fights to recover and Jake begins the long road ahead, the community's love and prayers continue to pour in for a family that lost so much in a single moment.

Sadly, two young girls also died in a tragic accident that could've been prevented. On June 14, 2025, a devastating accident occurred in Delaware County, Pennsylvania, which left two young girls critically injured.

Sadly, after fighting for her life at Nemours Children's Hospital, one of the girls, 12-year-old Abby Gillon, passed away two days later on June 16, at 2:28 p.m. A fundraiser has since been set up to support her bereaved family.

Initial reports from the Aston Township Police confirmed that emergency crews were dispatched to the intersection of Lehr Boulevard and Concord Road at approximately 2:18 p.m. on a Saturday. There, first responders found two young girls suffering from life-threatening injuries after being struck by a vehicle while riding an electric scooter (e-scooter), from which they fell off.

Both were given immediate medical assistance at the scene before being rushed to a nearby hospital, where they were listed in critical condition.

The driver of the car involved remained at the scene and cooperated fully with authorities. While no criminal charges or citations have been filed, the investigation remains ongoing, led jointly by Aston Township Police and the Delaware County Accident Reconstruction Team.

Following the incident, Lehr Boulevard was temporarily shut down, but has since been reopened to traffic.

News concerning how Abby died was shared by a loved one, who delivered the heartbreaking update on behalf of the late girl's grieving mother, Lori Kralle. "After fighting hard to combat a severe traumatic brain injury, Abigail passed away," the friend divulged.

During a tearful interview, Lori recalled hearing the devastating news that her daughter had been involved in an accident from an Emergency room (ER) nurse via a phone call.

"[I] just kept asking, 'Is she alert? Is she responsive?' And they wouldn't give me an answer," shared Abby's mom. For Lori, the pain of losing her only child has been profound.

"We feel broken. She was my best friend, my only daughter," she said in a tearful interview. Yet even amid the grief, Abby's mother has found a way to channel her sorrow into purpose.

Determined to prevent similar tragedies, Lori and her family have partnered with a state legislator to champion "Abby's Law." This is a proposed bill that would implement stricter e-scooter regulations, including speed caps at 20 mph, helmet requirements for 16 and 17-year-olds, and an age restriction for riders.

A Facebook page created by Abby's uncle has already drawn significant support from the community, though the initiative has faced some resistance.

"There are people that [sic] argue it, 'you can't take my rights away, you can't do this,'" he acknowledged of the pushback, but emphasized that the family's goal is to protect lives. For Lori, it's also about making sure no other parent has to endure the agony she now carries after losing her beloved daughter.

Abby's uncle echoed Lori's grief and determination in a poignant Facebook post that quickly captured the attention of many online.

Writing just weeks after Abby's passing, he urged the public to back "Abby's Law," citing how his niece had been removed from life support after the accident. "Scooters are dangerous and [sic] it's getting out of control," he wrote. "These do not belong on the streets!"

Abby's uncle emphasized the need for safety education, helmet use, and age restrictions, voicing support for scooter confiscation if guidelines are ignored.

While acknowledging that not everyone agrees with stricter rules, he stood firm in his conviction, saying, "If I saved one from harm [sic] my intentions worked."

The emotional weight of his words was underscored by a collection of personal photos celebrating Abby's life. Among them are a proud school portrait, sweet snapshots of her as a small child, cheerful moments with family at a boardwalk arcade, and heartwarming scenes from her days as a cheerleader.

As the family continued to process their heartbreak, a close friend, Stephanie Jensen, stepped in to offer support in a tangible way. She organized a GoFundMe campaign on behalf of Lori, urging the community to rally behind Abby's family in their time of need.

The fundraiser was initially launched while Abby was in critical condition, with Stephanie encouraging prayers, donations, and shares. The page features a touching holiday photo of Abby seated beside Santa Claus, smiling warmly in festive green pajamas.

Following Abby's passing, Stephanie updated the page with a heartfelt appeal to help the family financially. "The financial burden of a funeral should be the last thing Abby's family, [sic] has to worry about," she stated, noting that the loved ones would be unable to work while navigating such immense loss.

Funds raised were set to go toward covering memorial expenses and helping the grieving mother manage unforeseen costs in the difficult weeks ahead.

As of now, the fundraiser has received an outpouring of generosity, collecting over $89,000 toward its $100,000 goal.

To further honor Abby's life, loved ones created an online memorial page—a gentle digital space dedicated to remembering the bright spirit she was. The homepage opens with a serene ocean backdrop and the message, "Let the memory of Abigail 'Abby' be with us forever." Visitors have filled the page with heartfelt tributes, recounting shared lunches and the warmth Abby brought to those around her.

A detailed biography on the site paints a vibrant picture of the girl behind the headlines: a foodie with a fondness for pickle pizza and Italian hoagies, a budding swimmer, a dedicated cheerleader, and a natural leader among her peers.

Abby's creativity, kindness, and magnetic energy left an impression far beyond her years—one now carried forward by every message, memory, and act of love shared in her name.

While her family continues to grieve, the loved ones of the late tween's friend, Bella Jones, are focused on her long and challenging road to recovery.

The severely injured girl's cousin, Joyce Cardwell, launched a GoFundMe page after the accident, writing, "She has a long road of recovery ahead of her, both parents will be out of work caring for Bella. Anything will help for the medical expenses [sic]." The page features heartfelt photos of Bella smiling alongside her family, a bittersweet reminder of the normalcy that once was.

In a recent update, the cousin disclosed, "Bella is now out of critical condition and is on the rehabilitation floor. She has 40 staples in her head, a fractured skull, swelling, and broke every bone on the left side of her face."

"She has a broken jaw and a fractured collarbone, she has a broken femur and 3 fractured ribs, and a major concussion. She had surgery to wire her jaw and screws in her femur."

Joyce also shared that her cousin will need six months or more to recover physically, adding, "Emotionally and mentally she's never going to be the same."

So far, the fundraiser has garnered over $67,000 toward its $75,000 goal, with supporters continuing to send love, prayers, and financial help as the family navigates an uncertain but hopeful path forward.

At this time, we wish to extend our most heartfelt condolences to everyone affected by such a significant loss.
