The Epstein files have upended life for many in the York family's orbit — but for one man, a line has quietly been drawn to protect what matters most to him.

The man who once charmed a princess across a ski slope is said to be standing steadfastly by her side — but there is one thing he reportedly will not do, no matter how the pressure builds around the family.

Jack Brooksbank's Firm Line on Family

Jack Brooksbank, 39, husband of Princess Eugenie, 36, is said to be drawing a firm line when it comes to her mother, Sarah Ferguson, according to sources speaking to the Daily Mail.

While he has reportedly pledged not to abandon the Princess's parents entirely, he is said to have made clear that the former Duchess of York will not be moving into the couple's home.

A source close to the couple told the Daily Mail that Jack's personal code of conduct means he will not "completely desert Andrew and Sarah," but that he has equally refused to "step into the line of fire himself."

"His first loyalty has to be to his wife and their two young children. The whole sordid affair has already brought them a great deal of unwarranted attention and he won't do anything to increase that," the insider revealed.

A second source was equally candid about the question of Sarah moving in with the couple, sharing, "Eugenie and Jack are resisting any suggestion from her mother that she should come and live with them." They added:

"Because, to be frank, Sarah is difficult to live with and they don't want the responsibility of looking after her at the moment. That's not to say they are not concerned about her welfare — they just don't actually want her to be living with them, even temporarily."

A Businessman With Something to Protect

Beyond the family dynamics, sources say Jack has significant professional reasons to keep his distance from the unfolding scandal. He is the owner of AEB Consultants Ltd, which reported a £630,000 profit in 2022, up from just £36,428 the year prior — a rise of more than 1,600 per cent.

"Jack has worked very hard building his business and it's going well. So, the last thing he needs is for the Epstein scandal to taint that," the source shared. "He will do everything he can to keep his head below the parapet because of that."

But with Princess Eugenie and her sister, Princess Beatrice, named repeatedly in the Epstein files, the climate has reportedly shifted.

Friends have previously described him as doing "very well for himself," and sources note that Jack has deliberately avoided relying on royal connections to build his career.

"He's not a person who has tried to cash in on his royal connections. He has tried to carve his own path and build his career on his own merits," the insider revealed.

Where Jack Now Stands with the Royals

Jack has long been well regarded within royal circles. Sources say he is popular, regularly joining gatherings at Sandringham at Christmas and shoots at Balmoral.

But with Princess Eugenie and her sister, Princess Beatrice, named repeatedly in the Epstein files, the climate has reportedly shifted. One insider said:

"The repeated mentions of Eugenie and her sister in the Epstein files may have moved the goalposts. There is clearly concern now that Eugenie and Jack will be tainted by association because of her parents, and understandably, in public the royals are keeping their distance from them."

What the Public Is Saying

As for the court of public opinion, the reported boundary Jack has set has drawn a range of reactions online. "Clever son-in-law!" wrote one commenter. "Understandable in the circumstances," said another while a third added, "Hubby wears the trousers and she has to tow the line."

"Can't blame him for making that decision. Guess Sarah can move on to Beatrice but I'm sure her husband doesn't want association with her being in business too," another person shared. One commenter acknowledged the complexity of the situation, typing, "She is still her mother."

What the Epstein Files Exposed About the Yorks

Princess Eugenie and Jack's concerns about having their reputations tainted are rooted in the contents of the three million pages of the Epstein files released by the US Department of Justice earlier this year.

Among the revelations, Sarah's emails to convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein disclosed that she had taken Princess Eugenie and Princess Beatrice to visit the financier days after his release from prison for child prostitution offences. Other messages referenced Princess Eugenie's personal life in explicit terms.

Then, earlier this month, the Princess stepped down from her role as patron of Anti-Slavery International, the world's oldest human rights organisation, after seven years of partnership.

Sources close to the sisters said they were shocked and "appalled" by their mother's correspondence, and deeply embarrassed by photographs of their father crouching over a mystery woman on the floor of a New York mansion.

Princess Eugenie's Very Public Few Weeks

The pressure on Princess Eugenie has been visible in recent weeks. In February, she was photographed in public with Jack for the first time since her father, Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor, was taken in for questioning on his 66th birthday.

Andrew subsequently spent 11 hours in custody as officers searched his property at Sandringham before he was released under investigation.

At the time, the Princess was on a family holiday at the exclusive Swiss ski resort of Gstaad. A fellow diner spotted her at lunch at Restaurant Waldmatte and told Hello! magazine they had not expected to see her there, given everything surrounding her family at the time.

Then, earlier this month, the Princess stepped down from her role as patron of Anti-Slavery International, the world's oldest human rights organisation, after seven years of partnership. The charity confirmed that "patronage from HRH Princess Eugenie of York has come to an end."
