This Star Who Openly Admits to Cosmetic Treatments Reveals Shocking Results That Made Her Look 'Freakish' — Photos
Few celebrities will ever admit to going too far with cosmetic work, but this actress has never shied away from that conversation, and her latest confession is her most startling yet.
This "Real Housewives of Beverly Hills" alum and "The Traitors" star has been remarkably open about cosmetic procedures for years, long before honesty about such things was fashionable in Hollywood.
In her new memoir, released in March 2026, she admitted to getting a treatment that went so wrong it left her traumatized. And most people might not know or remember how she originally looked.
Back in 2008, this actress was already doing something almost unheard of in Hollywood. At 45, she openly told InTouch that she had been getting facial fillers to soften the creases and lines that come with age. When she saw a then-recent photo of herself looking noticeably puffy, she knew she had overdone it.
Still, nothing in those early years came close to what unfolded in the spring of 2024, when a routine pre-event appointment turned into a very public nightmare.
The Fashion Trust Awards in Beverly Hills were just around the corner that April when she scheduled what she assumed would be a routine Botox treatment.
During her appointment, her esthetician recommended SKINVIVE, a fresh option for skin injectables. The FDA categorizes this treatment as a dermal filler or gel implant that professionals use in targeted facial sections to enhance definition or minimize the look of wrinkles and fine lines.
According to the actress in her new memoir, "You Better Believe I'm Gonna Talk About It," she was told that it wouldn't add volume, just make her glow. So, she agreed, and the filler was applied exclusively around her cheeks.
And what happened next was definitely not shiny.
Whether it was an allergy or simply her body's response to the product, her cheeks ballooned in a way she had not anticipated. “All of a sudden, my cheeks were like a squirrel gathering nuts,” she wrote in the book.
Compounding the problem was a separate Botox treatment she had received in her jaw at the time to manage her temporomandibular joint dysfunction. Unfortunately, the two procedures collided in the worst possible way.
"Well, the combination of the Botox making my jawline atrophy, and SKINVIVE giving me volume, made me look freakish," she wrote.
The worst was that she still had a red carpet to walk. At the Fashion Trust Awards, photographers captured her noticeably altered appearance, and the images spread fast. Beauty influencers began posting side-by-side comparisons, and the commentary was brutal.
By now, you may have guessed that the star in question is, in fact, Lisa Rinna, 62, and sadly, she had to go through that painful scrutiny.
"Everybody put my picture up because my face did look different," she wrote in her book. "Everyone was so mean about it. I was all over TikTok and all over every [expletive] doctor's site."
Afterward, Rinna went to her dermatologist and had the SKINVIVE dissolved. Her face returned to its normal appearance in just a few days, but the emotional weight of the experience took longer to shake.
"Oh my God. It was really humiliating because I knew that it looked terrible," she admitted. "Fortunately, I'm an old battle axe at this point and I can take it."
About a month after the incident, she spoke to People and offered a measured take on what happened. "Some things work out, and some things don't," she said, and also used the moment to speak directly to the mounting pressure, especially on younger women, to pursue cosmetic perfection.
"Once you get older and there's anti-aging things out there, great. Hallelujah! But it's happening at such a young age now, the pressure to somehow be perfect," Rinna shared. "I guess what I have to say is there is no such thing as perfection. There just isn't. And so if you're chasing that, you'll always be unhappy."
Despite everything, the actress has not walked away from injectables entirely. She maintains that most of her experiences have been positive and believes strongly that the best cosmetic work is the kind that goes completely unnoticed. "The best work is when no one can tell that you've had anything done," she said.
Notably, her 24-year-old daughter, Amelia Gray Hamlin, is actually a fan of the very treatment that caused her mother such grief. Hamlin told Variety earlier this year that she uses SKINVIVE as a moisturizing injection, not a filler, and has insisted she has never had lip filler.
Rinna's perspective now aligns with a broader shift happening across Hollywood. Beverly Hills plastic surgeon Dr. Deepak Dugar, known for his signature scarless rhinoplasty procedure, told the Daily Mail that restraint has become the defining trend heading into 2026.
"The new celebrity aesthetic is about refinement, balance, and looking undetectably better, rather than dramatically different," he said, adding that the goal now is what he calls "quiet-luxury beauty," meaning faces that look rested and naturally well, rather than visibly worked on.
Several Los Angeles A-listers, including Pamela Anderson and Kris Jenner, have already moved in that direction. Rinna has lived on both sides of that line, and she is not pretending otherwise.
