Jennifer Garner and Ben Affleck Reunite During Daughter Violet's Medical Emergency
There are moments that cut through everything, past divorces and the years that accumulate in between. For the "Daredevil" stars, one of those moments arrived recently, outside an emergency room in Los Angeles.
Jennifer Garner, 54, and Ben Affleck, 53, rushed their eldest daughter, Violet, 20, to the emergency room after she was barely able to walk.

In the photographs, Violet was seen limping into the medical center, her face mask on, leaning against both of her parents as they guided her through the door. Her father walked with his arm wrapped protectively around her as she held on tightly to him.
Jennifer stayed close on the other side, keeping her balanced with every step. Hours later, all three of them emerged together, Violet on crutches, one foot immobilized in an orthopedic boot, and both parents still at her side.
The nature of Violet’s injury has not been publicly disclosed.
Two Parents, One Hospital Door
The photographs were striking for reasons that had little to do with celebrity: two people who once built a life together now holding their family together in a different way, standing on either side of their daughter as they guided her through the emergency room doors.

Ben and Jennifer married in 2005 and finalized their divorce in 2018. In the years since, they have co-parented their three children, Violet, 20, Fin, 17, and Samuel, 14.
They continue to spend holidays together, attend school events side by side, and appear publicly with a familiarity that often feels less like obligation and more like genuine partnership.

In February 2026, Jennifer reflected on what it had taken to raise children across two households. She explained that parenting across two households often means both parents are constantly trying to compensate for what the other side of the home once provided.
Over time, that effort appears to have shaped a daughter who has built a distinct identity well beyond her parents’ Hollywood fame.

The Life Violet Built for Herself
Violet was born on December 1, 2005, in Los Angeles and has spent the past two years at Yale University in New Haven, Connecticut, where her academic work centers on global health, climate justice, and public policy.
She has published a piece in Yale's global health journal titled "A Chronically Sick Earth: Community Organizing," and in September 2025, she spoke at a United Nations side event on healthy indoor air in New York City.

The mask she wore at the hospital on May 26 has been a regular part of her public appearances since 2019, when she contracted a post-viral condition.
She has since become an outspoken advocate for stronger public health protections, addressing the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors in July 2024 and calling for improved access to masks, better air filtration, and ultraviolet light systems in government buildings.

Much of that independence appears to have developed against the backdrop of a family learning how to stay connected even as the marriage at its center came apart.
What Broke, and What Never Did
Jennifer and Ben separated in 2015, after a decade of marriage, and the breakdown played out in full public view.

In a recent interview, Jennifer spoke plainly about what the divorce actually felt like:
"The fact of it is what was hard. The actual breaking up of a family is what was hard. Losing a true partnership and friendship is what was hard."

Ben has spoken just as candidly. In 2020, he said he had never wanted the divorce and had not wanted to be a split family with his children. He said:
"When you have children with somebody, you're connected to them forever. And I'm very lucky she is the mother of my children."
Both have chosen to act on that connection. When Ben sought treatment for alcohol dependency in the years following their separation, Jennifer personally drove him to the facility and stayed by his side.

During the Pacific Palisades wildfires last summer, after wildfires reportedly damaged his home, she reportedly welcomed him into hers.
Both have since moved forward in their personal lives, but their presence for their children has remained constant.

And only weeks before the emergency room visit, the family had been photographed in circumstances that looked far more ordinary.
Two Weeks Before the Crutches
On May 9, 2026, Violet returned to Los Angeles to kick off her summer break from Yale.
She was photographed with Jennifer and her younger brother, Samuel, 14, picking up ice cream at Sweet Rose Creamery inside the Brentwood Country Mart near their home.
For the first time in a long while, Violet had removed her mask during the outing, holding it in her hand. She had also taken off her glasses, offering a rare glimpse of the young woman both of her parents have spent years describing with unmistakable pride.
What They Have Always Said About Her
Long before the hospital visit, both Jennifer and Ben Affleck had spoken openly about the person Violet was becoming.

In October 2025, Ben said, "I could not be more proud of my children, I can't even tell you," adding that Violet "takes after her mom, she's amazing."
Jennifer, speaking in 2023 during Violet's college search, was equally direct, "She's a self-starter. I'm proud of her no matter what."
And in the photographs outside the emergency room that week, that pride was visible in the way neither parent left her side.
