Joy-Anna Duggar was rushed to hospital for an emergency pregnancy-related surgery

The Counting On star was able to show fans how her birth went recently. Fans got to see how Joy-Anna Duggar wanted to give birth at home.

According to Entertainment Daily, the baby was born on February 23, 2018. The birth was televised on March 20, 2018, showing Duggar being rushed to the hospital to give birth.

Duggar, 20, welcomed her first child, son Gideon, with husband Austin Forsyth in late February. Fans were able to see exactly what happened during her labor.

During an episode of Counting On Monday night, Duggar was rushed to the hospital for an emergency C-section. She had originally planned to have a home birth but after 20 hours in labor, her midwife recommended that she go to the hospital.

Earlier in the episode, the reality star explained her decision to have a home birth. "We're only about 30 minutes from the hospital, so it's not so bad," she added. "In case of an emergency, we'll have a change of plans."

But on February 22, 2018, she went into labor for hours and things weren't going smoothly for her. She was even becoming exhausted.

"I decided to have a home birth just ’cause I’d know that it’s more comfortable being at home. I really wanted to just try it."

Her mother, Michelle Duggar, who traveled to Duggar and Forsyth's home after hearing her daughter had gone into labor, stated that her daughter was doing well. After 20 hours of labor at home, Duggar’s midwife determined that the baby was in the breech position.

That meant the baby was positioned with its feet down which could be dangerous for both the mother and the child. The star was then rushed to the hospital where she immediately underwent a cesarean section.

While she was being taken to the hospital, her father, Jim Bob Duggar, who was waiting at the family home with the rest of the children, received a text from Michelle telling him that they were on their way to the hospital. Duggar was seen being wheeled into an operating room.

The surgery was a success and the star safely delivered her baby boy. Forsyth shared that they were happy that their little one had arrived and that they were parents.

The parents announced Gideon's arrival on Instagram just days after he was born. Gideon Martyn Forsyth was born on February 23, 2018, at 3:39 pm.

He weighed 10lbs. 3oz. and was 22 inches long according to the post.
