The most common thing that doctors do when they want to treat someone’s illness is prescribing drugs. Most of the times, the result are the ones they expect.

In some cases, drugs can end up deteriorating people’s health instead of helping them as some drugs might have negative effects on the long run. In order to prevent it, Healthy Holistic Living created a list of 5 drugs that can ruin people’s lives.

1. Proton Pump Inhibitors

They are commonly prescribed to treat acid reflux but have been associated with dementia, kidney disease, and heart attacks. Apart from that, PPIs can cause chronic constipation, low magnesium levels, and increase the risk of bone fractures.

The best thing to do when doctors prescribe them is asking them if there is a natural treatment that does the same without having those negative effects.

2. Prednisone

It is a multi-tasking steroid used for autoimmune conditions such as rheumatoid arthritis, lupus, and ulcerative colitis. It suppresses the immune response that causes the body to attack itself.

On the other hand, it compromises the immune system by making it more susceptible to infections. If taken for a long period of time, it can produce changes in body fat, low libido, acne, and complicated menstruation.

3. Statins

It is prescribed to manage high cholesterol levels and it is one of the most common medications taken by adults. It might have side-effects such as headaches, insomnia, muscle aches, and so on.

If used for a long period of time, it can increase the risk of breast cancer, Parkinson’s disease, and diabetes.

4. Antidepressants

Weight gain, low libido, nausea, problems sleeping, constipation, irritability, and anxiety are just a couple of the negative effects that people who take antidepressants might experience.

One of the most shocking aspects of it is that one out of ten Americans over the age of 12 take them.

5. Opioids

Even though they are great painkillers, most of them have a highly addictive nature, which means that even the mentally strongest person could easily become addicted and abuse them.

Again, the best thing to do if physicians prescribed opioids is asking for an alternative. While natural remedies are often the best solution, any decision should be made without the advice of a doctor.
