Tom Jones' estranged son Jon lives homeless. And he has some words to say to his star dad
There are many stories about women who claim that a celebrity slept with them and got them pregnant. Some of them tell the truth, some of them don’t.
That’s what happened to Sir Tom Jones in late 1987, when he met the aspiring model Katherine Berkery, 24, in a New York nightclub. The following day, Tom, who was 47 at that point, invited her to watch one of his shows.
According to Daily Mail, Berkery agreed and the couple spent the night in his suite at Manhattan’s Ritz-Carlton Hotel. After three months, she learned she was pregnant.
When she tried to contact Tom to tell him that he was going to be the father of her child, his assistant got the call and told her that it was ‘showbiz,’ so she couldn’t get in touch with him.
Tom never publicly admitted he had a second child until 2008, not even after DNA tests proved his paternity. His second son, named Jonathan Berkery, was born on June 27, 1988, and has been pursuing a career in the music industry.
Things have been quite difficult for him, though, and he sleeps on a mat in a New Jersey homeless shelter. Jonathan, whose stage name is Jon Jones, confessed he doesn’t want money from his biological father.
He added that all he wants is to meet and talk to him. The truth is that it could be something difficult to see soon as Tom has never even sent him a Christmas present or given him a phone call.
When the DNA test proved that Tom was, in fact, Jon’s father, he was ordered to pay around $2,400 a month to help raise him until he turned 18 years old.
‘It wasn’t something I had planned. If I had planned it, I would have done something more than just financially. But it wasn’t. I just fell for it. I just fell for the seduction.’
Sir Tom Jones, Daily Mail, January 15, 2018.
Those words were too much for Jon, who was only 20 when Tom said them. He managed to forgive him and, again, all he would like to have is a conversation with his father before it is too late.
