The Voice coach Kelly Clarkson celebrated her birthday earlier this week, and her birthday wish was crushed on the show.

As reported by Country Music Nation, Clarkson’s special day coincided with the elimination of one of her favorite contestants on her team.

The coaches were at the edge of their seats when the names of the contestants in the danger zone were being revealed. One of the singers at risk was team Kelly’s star, D.R. King.

What followed was a tense instant save round, in which King performed the song Papa Was a Rollin’ Stone in order to secure his place in the next round.

The audience responded with a roar of applause for King, however, Clarkson began to get tensed about the prospect of one of her key team members getting voted out.

Known for being openly expressive about her feelings, Clarkson exclaimed that she hoped nobody from her team would get eliminated on her birthday.

She emphasized that she did not want to get depressed on her special day, and in an effort to improve King’s chances, she also urged her online fans to help keep him in the competition.

Clarkson posted a heartfelt message on social media asking her followers to support King and help her on the occasion of her birthday.

However, when the final results were announced, King was the eliminated participant. His coach, who had tremendous faith in his talent, could not control her emotions over his loss.

Clarkson was visibly upset and could barely speak. Later, she returned to social media to elaborate on her feelings about King’s elimination.

She expressed how heartbroken she felt and also termed the results a bad birthday present.

Before signing off, the diva made a promise that she would share the stage with King someday, as she believed that pulling him out of the show was a terrible mistake.
