Jada Pinkett opens up about dating Will Smith while he was still married
Jada Pinkett Smith and Will Smith have been married since 1997 and they have had two children, Jaden and Willow Smith.
Even though their relationship is one of the longest and most beloved ones in Hollywood, it started in a very different way. For the premiere episode of Jada’s Red Table Talk, she invited Sheree Fletcher, Will’s ex-wife.
During the conversation, Jada revealed that she and Will started dating and seeing each other while he was still married to Fletcher. It was the first time that she publicly expressed her thoughts in front of Fletcher.
Jada went on to explain that when she met Will, he was in a loving and balanced relationship with Fletcher, to whom he shared their then-3-year-old son, Trey.
Admitting it was a mistake, Jada said that she might have done it because she didn’t understand what marriage and divorce were and finally added that she ‘probably should have fell back.’
Later in the episode, Jada confessed that she thought Will’s relationship to Fletcher was over when she started dating him, but Fletcher jokingly said ‘oh you thought it was done? That’s funny girl.’
The pair kept talking about past incidents during their relationship, which was not as good as it is nowadays. One of them happened years ago when Fletcher called Jada’s house to talk to Trey.
Jada picked up the phone and Fletcher admitted not being respectful due to the fact that she had to go through Jada to talk to her own son. Will’s current wife told her that she didn’t appreciate Fletcher’s tone and hung up.
Clearly mad, Fletcher called back and told Jada that she was living in a house she had picked, to what Jada replied ‘it’s my house now.’ Things got better over the years, thankfully.
The most touching part of the conversation took place when Fletcher told the first time Trey met Jada, confessing that he liked her a lot. As soon as Jada heard that, she started crying and Fletcher just thanked her for loving her ‘baby.’
