The First Lady was confined last Monday morning, and is expected to remain in the hospital for a few days more following the operation for additional observation.

While Donald Trump remained at the White House during her surgery, he made up for his absence by paying a visit to his wife whom he claims is in 'high spirits' after the successful operation.

The president went on to thank their supporters who wished them well both before and after Melania's kidney surgery.

Since Nancy Reagan's mastectomy in October 1987, she is the first US First Lady that had to undergo a serious medical procedure.

It has not been announced when Melania will be heading back to the White House and continue her duties as the First Lady, but the White House's main priority is for her to recover from her surgery successfully.
