Meghan Markle's father remains in hospital after heart surgery

Thomas Markle, Meghan Markle’s father, had a successful heart operation on Wednesday. At the moment he’s still at the hospital and it isn’t clear when he will get out.

While talking to TMZ he shared that the doctors had put in about three stents during the operation. He shared that it would take a long time for him to heal.

Thomas Markle, 73, had a heart attack last week. On Monday, this week, he started having chest pains and on Tuesday he checked himself into the hospital.

There he was told by doctors that they would clear any blockage, repair the damage, and put a stent where it was needed. He was scheduled to go into the operating room at 7:30 AM on Wednesday.

At 3:05 PM Markle spoke to TMZ and they reported that he seemed alert and coherent. He revealed that doctors had implanted stents in his blood vessels.

Meghan’s father said he believed the surgeons had implanted 3 stents, but he wasn't sure. At the moment, the father of the bride is still in the hospital and it isn’t clear when he will be released.

"Staying in the hospital a few more days. Not allowed to get excited."

On the same day that he started having chest pains, Markle faced a scandal about staging photos of himself with an agency. At the time, he had declared that he wouldn’t go to his daughter’s wedding because of the embarrassment that he’d caused.

He then had a change of heart the next day when it was reported that Meghan texted him asking him to come regardless. However, he needed to check himself into the hospital and was told of the surgery he would undergo.

This new development meant that the father of the bride wouldn’t be well enough to make it to the wedding on Saturday. "I hate the idea of missing one of the greatest moments in history and walking my daughter down the aisle," he was quoted as saying.

According to the Internet Movie Database, Markle is a former lighting director who worked on popular TV shows like Married with Children and General Hospital. He met Meghan's mother, Doria Ragland, at a Hollywood studio in the late '70s.

The two divorced when Meghan was young.
