Ellen DeGeneres shares rare snaps from her African weekend with wife Portia de Rossi
Ellen DeGeneres and wife Portia de Rossi share photos of their dream holiday in Africa
Ellen DeGeneres and wife Portia de Rossi have been trekking through Africa for the past week and living one of the talk-show host's long-cherished dreams.
In honor of DeGeneres' admiration for conversationist Dian Fossey, de Rossi established the Ellen DeGeneres Campus of the Dian Fossey Gorilla Fund in Rwanda.
The couple traveled to Africa to establish a sanctuary for the mountain gorillas as part of the Ellen DeGeneres Wildlife Fund.
The talk show host has posting snaps of their experience on Twitter and revealed that finally coming face to face with a mountain gorilla had been life-changing.
“I can’t begin to describe what this experience was like, or how much it means to me. I’m so grateful.”

She posted a photo of herself posing with the mountain gorillas in the jungle, and captioned it: “We found them.”
The couple has been married for ten years, but this is their first journey to Africa together. The couple spent some quality time with endangered giraffes in Kenya over the weekend. DeGeneres shared a video of de Rossi having breakfast at Giraffe Manor, a hotel in Nairobi that functions as a giraffe sanctuary.
DeGeneres has always been a passionate defender of animals and has used her wealth and influence to help protect endangered wildlife.
She is a vegan and supports animal shelters and charities in her native Los Angeles. DeGeneres and de Rossi have adopted several rescue cats and dogs from kill shelters.
She has declared that the Africa trip has been the journey of a lifetime, one she will never forget.
