Lionel Richie's daughter Nicole stuns in orange polka-dot dress in recent photo

The television personality, actress, and fashion designer got candid about what she would tell her children about her addiction.

Nicole Richie shared a lovely photo of herself to Instagram where she can be seen posing outside in the garden next to a tree in a beautiful burnt orange polka dot dress.

The floor-length dress features a loose cut, with strappy sleeves and a v-cut at her neckline. Richie looks relaxed as she leans against the tree with her elbow.

Her hair is neatly up behind her head, with loose strands hanging about her face, as she stares off into the distance.

Richie also recently spoke out about her own struggles with addiction, and explained that she has every intention of being open and honest with her children about it.

Part of the reason for this is that her misdemeanors are so well documented by the media over the years.

“My past is out there. I have no choice but to be honest,” she told You Magazine. “What I can do is use that experience as a tool for when my kids get older. I think getting into trouble and going through everything in the public eye was good because if I had cleaned up without anyone knowing, maybe I would have figured out how to slip back into it.”

When Richie was just 18, she started using cocaine. A few years later, she was using heroin, and was arrested for being in possession of the drug in 2003. In 2006, she was caught driving under the influence.

She also suffered from anorexia in between her addiction, and she had to start seeing a nutrionist and a doctor.

Richie said that as her children, Harlow, 10, and Sparrow, 8, grow older, she and husband Joel Madden intend to ease them into explaining her earlier behaviors.

"We’re starting with, ‘Mummy got grounded a lot,’” Richie said.
