Serena Williams sings lullaby to baby Olympia in clip amid news about her French Open exit
After retiring from the French Open tournament due to an injury on June 4, Serena Williams shared a video singing a lullaby to her baby daughter, Olympia.
In the 15-second video, Serena is shown sitting on a couch while holding Olympia in her arms and singing Twinkle Twinkle Little Star. Even though Serena’s intention was to make her daughter sleep, Olympia’s eyes were wide open.
The baby might have missed her mother a lot, as Serena had to sacrifice ‘precious hours’ with Olympia in order to practice and be ready for the French Open, the first Grand Slam tournament she played since giving birth last September.
Serena shocked the world shortly before she was due to face Maria Sharapova in their fourth-round match as she announced that she was retiring due to a painful injury in her right pectoral muscle.
During a press conference, Serena confessed to being ‘beyond disappointed’ as she gave up so much to be ready for the competition, so having to leave it due to an injury was difficult, reported Daily Mail.
Serena added that it was the first time she had such injury and that it started during her match versus Julia Görges. She pointed out that the problem was so severe that she couldn’t even serve, which is one of the most crucial aspects of tennis.
Apart from that, Serena pointed out that she wasn’t sure about how much time she would have to rest or if she would be ready for the next tournament (Wimbledon – July 2).
Serena revealed that she would be visiting doctors and getting exams done to know how serious the injury is. Until getting the results, she couldn’t tell if she will be playing in Wimbledon.
So far, neither Serena nor any other member of her team has publicly said anything about her problem. Meanwhile, she is having a good time with her family back in the U.S.
