Captain Chris Blazek of the Chattanooga Fire Department had been in the shower after returning to the fire station when they were called out to a car accident.

He quickly rushed to leave, and when they arrived at the scene he was greeted by the hysterical driver - a pregnant woman - and her three children who had been in the car at the time of the collision.

The Chattanooga Fire Department took to Facebook to share what happened next as the firefighters ensured everyone was safe and in good hands.

The pregnant mother was experiencing both back and abdominal pain. Her two elder daughters seemed to be unharmed, but the 4-month-old baby was also inconsolable

Blazek gently removed her from her car seat, and performed a quick exam on her to ensure she wasn't suffering from some or other injury as a result of the crash.

When he determined that she was completely healthy and likely just experiencing shock.

The baby girl just laid her head down on his shoulder, and suddenly became calm. Blazek ensured his men had the accident scene under control, so he decided to sit down with the little girl and allow her to rest.

Within seconds, she had fallen asleep in his arms.

Her mother was transported to the hospital so that she could be properly examined, and the firefighters stuck around the accident scene with the children until they could be handed over to family members.

"It's moments like this, that I am reminded, this is why I do the job," Blazek said later of the image where he craddles the little girl.
