Kate Spade’s husband steps out in bizarre cartoon-mouse mask
Andy Spade, brother of actor and comedian David Spade, was spotted walking out of his apartment wearing a very bizarre mouse mask.
The 55-year-old stepped outside his Upper East Side home on Thursday morning, June 7, 2018. His face was concealed by the mask and he had quite a lot of reporters waiting for him.
The mask depicted the face of Bernard, the bucktoothed fictional character from the movie The Rescuers, which had a grinning face, black whiskers and a red newsboy cap, as reported by Page Six.
Dressed in a buttoned-up jacket, Andy, whose wife, Kate Spade, was found dead in her Park Avenue apartment on Tuesday, ignored the reporters' questions as he entered a black Chevy Suburban.
It is yet unknown why Andy chose to wear the mask but one could assume that it was supposed to conceal his identity or, at least, his facial expressions.
Kate was one of the most prestigious designers in the fashion world, having built an empire thanks to her old company, Kate Spade New York, which started by designing and selling colorful handbags.
She founded the company with her husband's help in 1993, and they were so successful that the business was expanded to include other accessories, as well as clothing pieces.
In 2006, Kate decided to sell her share of the company to Tapestry, Inc. for $2.4 billion, arguing that she needed to take some time off the fashion world. 10 years later, the designer went returned to action with Frances Valentine, her accessories line.
The line was named after her 13-year-old daughter, Frances Beatrix, who is currently heartbroken. The young woman was one of the most affected family members by Kate's death.
The reason behind Kate's suicide is yet to be revealed, but according to Andy, she had been battling anxiety and depression for a while.
Despite their 24-year marriage, the couple had been having some problems in the past year and had been living apart for 10 months. If you wish to learn more about Kate Spade, consider following us on our Twitter account @amomama_usa.
