'Top Chef' star reveals Anthony’s sweet relationship with her daughter
Padma Lakshmi, the Top Chef host, was one of Anthony Bourdain's closest friends and took the time to remember some of his best qualities and how they bonded through their children.
Anthony Bourdain, one of the most famous and recognizable faces in the food and entertainment industry, passed away on Friday, June 7, 2018, after committing suicide.
His death shook those who knew him, especially family and friends such as Lakshmi, who took to her Instagram account to share a photo of a younger Bourdain in the kitchen.
Lakshmi confessed that it was a very hard day for her, as she was filming an episode of Top Chef when she learned of Bourdain's passing. Not having the luxury of taking a day off, she had to endure the pain throughout the shooting.
Bourdain appeared as a guest judge on the show on several occasions and, according to 47-year-old Lakshmi, he always brought a 'breath of fresh air' to the series, making her laugh all the time.
The two had many interests in common, such as food and traveling, but it was the birth of Lakshmi's daughter, Krishna, who is currently 8 years old, that took their bond to the next level.
Having a young daughter as well, Bourdain recognized that struggles that Lakshmi went through every single day, having to juggle her social and professional life.
The Top Chef host remembered how Bourdain loved playing with her daughter, and how he would bounce her on his knee claiming that he loved 'that new baby smell.'
Lakshmi admitted that Bourdain could be rough and rash sometimes, but pointed out that that was one of his biggest qualities and that he would say things as they were without being afraid of the consequences.
Always rooting for the underdogs, Bourdain was known for his immense curiosity, which led him to travel to many places around the world in order to know more about a country's culture.
At the time of his death, Bourdain was shooting an episode of Bourdain's show, Parts Unknown, in France, and his body was found by French chef Eric Ripert, a very close friend of the TV personality.
