According to People, the two had an awkward moment when arriving at their venue. However, Meghan bounced back quickly.

Duchess Meghan, 36, was clearly still in learning mode as she had her first outing with the Queen, 92. Her lack of knowledge of Royal protocol was evident on Thursday as she first arrived in Cheshire, England.

When the pair arrived after their Royal train trip, the Queen‘s Bentley was waiting for them. There was a moment of confusion as Meghan appeared unsure who should get into the car first

Fortunately, the monarch smoothly guided her through. The new Duchess of Sussex asked the Queen what her preference was with regards to who should enter first.

The monarch responded, “You go first” and Meghan replied, “Oh, okay.” The awkward moment was swiftly avoided and things proceeded smoothly.

When meeting Lord Lieutenant of Cheshire, David Briggs, the Duchess politely told him that she was happy to be there. Meghan had other support systems during the outing.

New aide Samantha Cohen and right-hand woman Amy Pickerill were at hand. Cohen, a former aide to Queen Elizabeth, “will represent [Meghan’s’] voice both internally and externally and fight her battles,” a source previously shared.

At the opening of the new Mersey Gateway Bridge over the Mersey River, Meghan commented that it was a magnificent bridge. She and the Queen then watched a dance performance by local school children celebrating 1,000 years of crossings over the river.

Andrew Curphey whose theater company brought together 80 children from nine local schools for the performance said the meeting had been a massive treat for them. He added that it had created a huge buzz for them all.

Curphey also shared that both the Queen and the Duchess had wanted to talk. He revealed that the best thing that happened before they left was when Meghan turned back to him and told him that the children had done great.
