An ex-Northwest school district English teacher, Katherine Ruth Harper, was sent to six years in prison for having sexual relations with her student.
As reported by Star-Telegram, 28-year-old Harper was accused of having multiple sexual encounters with her 15-year-old student at her Fort Worth home as well as his home in Trophy Club when she was pregnant last year.
Harper was sentenced to 10 years of probation along with 6 years of jail time. She pleaded guilty to one count of sexual assault of a child and one count of having an improper relationship with a student.
The former educator will be required to be registered as a sex offender for the rest of her life after she completes probation, according to Jamie Beck, Denton County first assistant criminal district attorney.
Harper worked as a seventh-grade English teacher at Tidwell Middle School in Roanoke. According to the affidavit, the juvenile victim was one of her students in the school.
The two began sharing text messages and nude photographs of each other. The youngster had saved Harper's images on his phone. Eventually, Harper reached out to the teenager and showed up at his house in Trophy Club.
The teenager told an investigator that he and Harper started to consume alcohol at his house. After drinks, both of them took off their clothes and the teenager ended up performing a sexual act on Harper, according to the affidavit.
The two had sex multiple times at their homes during the months, June and July, in 2016. The officials of the school district had received a tip about a possible relationship between Harper and the student in September 2016.
The investigation was closed due to lack of evidence and information. The investigation was reinitiated in December 2016 when the officials received more information from an anonymous source.
