The former “American Idol” winner was one of the voices chosen to grace the stage of the Songwriters Hall Of Fame 49th Annual Induction and Awards at the Marriott Marquis Hotel in New York City. The prestigious event also counted with the presence of Mariah Carey, Steven Tyler, Usher, The Weekend, Jason Mraz, and Tony Award winner Brandon Victor Dixon.
Wearing a plunging tight black outfit, Fantasia made an incredible performance showing off her powerful vocal skills. The top of her outfit put her cleavage on display and was embellished with stones and fringes hanging from the long sleeves, while the bottom of her suit had an opening down her legs with see-through fabric that put her skin on display.
Despite all she’s been through in the past months, Fantasia had her game face on and took pictures left and right with her favorite stars, including one with Steve Dorff, who was one of the inductees in the Hall of Fame.
Just four months ago Fantasia’s nephew, 18-years-old Tyquan Vonricco Washington was tragically shot and killed in Greensboro, North Carolina. Paramedics tried to save the boys’ life, but the injuries were fatal and he was pronounced dead upon his arrival at Moses Cone Hospital.
David Lee White, Jr., 21, was arrested and charged with first-degree murder a few hours later. The man was held without bond, according to police reports.
At the time, Fantasia shared her pain and grief with fans through an Instagram post where she wrote: “Ty. Auntie is So Sorry Baby. RIP to my Oldest Nephew Please Pray for his Mother and my Brother @riccobarrino & his Stepdad.”
The boy’s father, Fantasia’s brother Ricco Barrino, shared a lengthy post with a message to his deceased son, expressing regret for not telling Tyquan how proud he was of the man he had become before, as he wrote:
“Dear son I needed to write this sooner but it's funny how life makes you aware of your own unconscious procrastination. I wanted you to know that from the depths of my heart your daddy loves you and he always has.”
Fantasia and her family have been slowly moving on with their lives, and she’s now focusing on making new music for her Rock Soul project while taking care of her two kids, her husband, and helping her brother recover from a motorbike accident he had late last year.
