Karen Jean Christiansen, 67, and her daughter Jena Helene Christiansen, 32, were driving from Shoreview to Rosemount, Minnesota on the 9th of July when a freak accident ended their lives, reported KSTP.com.
Police reported that the two women were killed when a 600-to-800-pound boulder fell off a truck in front of them and on to the vehicle they were traveling in, and. crashed completely through the car.
The Hennepin County Medical Examiner said the official cause of death for both of the women was blunt force head trauma due to the crash.
"If you tried to duplicate this millions of times — I don't think you'd be able to do that — I think it was a very unique situation."
Rosemount Police Chief Mitchell Scott.KSTP.com, 12th of July 2018.
Police say the family’s Toyota Avalon was headed north on Rich Valley when a landscaping truck came up over a railroad crossing, and the boulder rolled off the truck.
A business security camera captured the image of the truck with the boulder on the back shortly before the accident occurred, and investigators worked with the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension to enhance the video to try and identify the name of the company painted on the truck.

Police were able to identify the company who owns the truck but are still trying to locate the driver for questioning.
Scott believes the truck driver must have been aware that the boulder had fallen from the car, yet he did not stop to offer the victims of the crash any assistance.
Karen and Jena Christiansen are deeply mourned by their disbelieving friends and family still trying to come to terms with the horrific accident and their loss.
