'Destiny's Child's Michelle Williams seeks professional help for mental health issues
Michelle Williams of Destiny's Child has checked herself into a mental health facility to seek help for her struggle with depression.
TMZ has exclusively learned that Williams is currently getting treated in a facility just outside of Los Angeles, and has been staying there for a couple of days.
The singer who has been open about her struggles in the past revealing her battle with depression in an interview last year voluntarily checked herself in.
In a statement posted on the 37-year-old's Instagram last Tuesday, she said:
"For years I have dedicated myself to increasing awareness of mental health and empowering people to recognize when it's time to seek help, support and guidance from those that love and care for your wellbeing. I recently listened to the same advice I have given to thousands around the world and sought help from a great team of healthcare professionals."
The mental health advocate knows how important it is to seek health for one to get better, and that is exactly what she did. Hoping to lead by example, she voluntarily went to the health facility herself to make sure that she recovered.
"Today I proudly, happily and healthily stand here as someone who will continue to always lead by example as I tirelessly advocate for the betterment of those in need."
The singer received a rush of support from her fans and followers on Instagram, calling her brave and strong.
One person who commented on her Instagram post was Tina Knowles-Lawson, mother of her friend Beyonce. In her comment, she wrote: "Michelle My Bell, I’m soo proud of you! You have given unselfishly of your time and support to so many and I know that you will be the best example of self care which we all need.”
It was just last April when Michelle famously reunited with Beyonce and Kelly Rowland at Coachella, where the group performed together after several years.
