Now TMZ has revealed that the actor died from heart failure. He was known for his boyish looks in films like Damn Yankees and The Burning Hills.

Tab Hunter, 86, was a 1950s actor who was battling prostate cancer according to his death certificate. However, he died, in part, from cardiogenic shock.

Cardiogenic shock is when the heart suddenly stops pumping enough blood to meet the body's needs. Another contributing factor to his death was a massive pulmonary embolism.

He was afraid of losing his career and being shunned if people found out that he was actually gay. So, for the public, he would get the studio to set up relationships with his female co-stars, like Natalie Wood.

However, in his 2005 autobiography, Tab Hunter Confidential, he revealed he was actually having affairs with male actors.

One such actor was Psycho star Anthony Perkins who Hunter had a long relationship with. Hunter’s memoir became an award-winning documentary in 2015.

J.J. Abrams was said to be making a film called Tab & Tony. The movie aims to tell the story about Hunter’s life with Perkins.

Hunter went public about his sexuality after his partner of more than 30 years, Allan Glaser, told him someone was writing a tell-all book about him. In a 2015 interview with The Hollywood Reporter Hunter said, "I thought, 'Look, get it from the horse's mouth and not from some horse's ass after I'm dead and gone.'"

The star shared that he didn’t want someone else writing lies about his life.
