Professional basketball player, Tristan Thompson shared a picture of his mother and youngest brother, both of who he refers to as his “heroes.” The 27-year-old NBA star is an Epilepsy advocate, and he explained how his brother, Amari, is a big part of that.

Tristan shared the shot taken on a rooftop location and in it, he sits on a chair flanked by his mother, Andrea Thompson. Amari, who has epilepsy and experiences seizures nearly every day, is seated on his big brother’s lap.

Tristan created the Amari Thompson Fund in 2013 as a support program for people and families affected by epilepsy, offering counseling, support, advocacy and recreational programs.

After watching his mother struggle to take care of their youngest brother, The Cleveland Cavaliers’ Center was determined to put his influence to good use. He revealed:

“My brother having epilepsy and seeing what he goes through and hearing the stories of other families and what they got through really touches my heart, it motivates me. …I try to do everything I can to raise money and awareness with my voice and my name.”

“Too many [people] struggle alone, desperate to manage this new and often scary life with seizures. The Amari Thompson Fund supports epilepsy programs and services that ensure no one faces epilepsy alone.”

The Amari Thompson Fund, which works together with Epilepsy Toronto, has so far assisted about 40,000 families to deal with the sometimes-debilitating neurological disorder.

Tristan, who has a rocky relationship with his father, Trevor Thompson, has two children. His ex-girlfriend, Jordan Craig, gave birth to his first child, a son, in 2016. The Canadian also has a daughter, True Thompson, who he welcomed in April with his current partner, Khloe Kardashian.
