Alfre Woodard's interracial marriage was criticized by family but has lasted 36 years and counting

The celebrated actress, Alfre Woodard, shared a touching pic of her and her hubby on their 36th wedding anniversary. The two looked more in love than ever.

Woodard married Roderick Spencer in 1983, and they are the proud parents of two adopted children, Mavis and Duncan. They celebrated 36 years of marriage in October 2017, and the actress shared a beautiful pic on Instagram to commemorate the occasion.

In the pic. Woodard is rocking a yellow satin shirt as she makes a kissy face in her husband's direction. Roderick, on the other hand, wore a buttoned-up white t-shirt as he put his arms around Alfre and smiled coyly to the camera.

"Iss All about da Roderick. 36yrs in," Woodard captioned the pic. Fans immediately flocked her comment section with congratulatory messages filled with love.

One user wrote "Happy Anniversary!! May the Lord continue to bless your marriage for many more years to come!!" and another added, "#lovewins!!! to 36 more years of wonderful!!"

Alfre and Roderick had to work hard to maintain their relationship due to criticism that interracial marriages often face. A few years ago, the 65-year-old beauty shared her point of view on love and marriage in an interview with Uptown Magazine, saying:

"Love will demand things that are impossible. Marriage is about putting both feet in the boat and rowing out in the middle of the lake…. [It] is a partnership that you continue to grow."

Woodard has enjoyed a long and celebrated acting career. She has been nominated for many awards throughout her career, including an Academy Award, Grammy Award, and no less than 18 Emmy Awards, of which she has won four.

Among her other achievements are three Screen Actors Guild Awards and a Golden Globe Award.

The actress started out her career in theatre, of which one of her most notable parts was in her breakthrough role in the 1977 play "For Colored Girls Who Have Considered Suicide When the Rainbow Is Enuf."

According to latest reports, Alfre and Roderick live a happy life in Santa Monica, California with their two adopted children, Mavis and Duncan. Mavis was Miss Golden Globe at the 2010 Golden Globe Awards.

Alfre also dedicates her time to charitable organizations, being a founder and board member of Artists for a New South Africa alongside her husband. The non-profit organization champions for democracy and equality in South Africa and fighting the AIDS pandemic.

Through it all, Alfre and Roderick have managed to have a long-lasting marriage, raised two children, and built tremendously successful careers while keeping most of their personal life away from the spotlight, and only sharing little bits of their lovely relationship.
