LaShonda Carter, a teacher from Chicago, canceled her plans to help one of her former students, 18-year-old Larresha Plummer, take care of her baby so the teenager could attend a job fair.

As Fox59 revealed, Carter and Plummer started chatting on Facebook late during the night, and the new mother told her former teacher that she had been going through some difficulties lately.

Apart from that, Plummer confessed that she wanted to go to a job fair but didn’t know how to get there. Even if she knew so, taking her five-week-old daughter on public transit wouldn’t be the best idea.

Carter immediately realized that she had to help her former student, so she told her that she would pick her up and take her to the job fair.

Since getting into a job fair with a young baby might be dangerous, Carter stayed in the car taking care of Plummer’s daughter while she went to apply for jobs. The proud teacher took to Facebook to share a video telling her experience.

“Sometimes as a teacher, our jobs go beyond the classroom… she’s a young teenage mom, and she needs some help. I’m gonna do what I can, as much as I can as an educator, but know I can’t do it all by myself [sic],” confessed Carter.

Once Plummer got back from the job fair, Carter took her to apply for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC), which is a program for mothers in need to obtain nutrition, education, and grants.

ASKING FOR HELP

During the video, the teacher, who first met Plummer when she was 15 years old, asked “her village” to help the new mother and her baby in any way possible, mentioning clothes, wipes, diapers, connections, and so on.

A BEAUTIFUL FRIENDSHIP

Fox59 added that even though Plummer was in Carter’s class three years ago, they shared a special bond and remained friends, so it wasn’t strange for the new mother to tell Carter the problems she was experiencing.

The teacher later revealed that Plummer got a job and that was planning to attend college, as well.
