Charlotte Brosnan was just 43 years old when she passed away from the same disease that killed her mother and grandmother.

Pierce got married to his first wife, Cassandra Harris back in 1980. Cassandra had Charlotte from a previous relationship.

When Charlotte's biological father passed in 1986, the actor adopted Charlotte and her brother Christopher. The siblings also took Pierce's surname as their own.

Later on, Pierce and Cassandra had a son together, Sean, in 1983.

In 2013, Pierce handed Charlotte over to her then-boyfriend Alex Smith for marriage. Two weeks later, she passed away.

A family friend said of the ceremony:

"It was the most moving day of my life. It wasn't a day to be sad. Alex and Pierce were smiling broadly."

Charlotte's daughter Isabella, 15 at the time, was a bridesmaid at the wedding. Her son Lucas was eight.

She was living with her husband in Surrey. Back then, Pierce interrupted his filming of 2014's "November Man" to be next to his daughter some days before the wedding.

Pierce made a statement about Charlotte to The Guardian about her death:

"On June 28, my darling daughter Charlotte Emily passed on to eternal life, having succumbed to ovarian cancer. She was surrounded by her husband Alex, children Isabella and Lucas and brothers Christopher and Sean."

He continued:

"Charlotte fought her cancer with rare grace and humanity, courage and dignity. Our hearts are heavy with the loss of our beautiful dear girl. We pray for her, and that the cure for this wretched disease will be at hand soon. We thank everyone for their heartfelt condolences."

Pierce went on to marry Keely Shaye Smith, with whom he shares two kids: Dylan, 16 and Paris, 12.

His most recent flick just came out in July 2018: "Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again" is a musical comedy starring Lily James, Amanda Seyfriend, and Meryl Streep. Pierce is one of three possible dads of Streep's daughter, Sophie.
