Grandmother, 95, ends up in prison after calling the police to defend her
A 95-year-old woman was arrested in Daytona Beach, north of Miami, for hitting her 46-year-old granddaughter with a flip-flop, upset with her for being lazy and taking advantage of her.
On May 5, 2018, Hattie Reynolds called the police to report that her granddaughter Janeen Williams was lying in her room and she didn’t know what to do to keep her away from her bed, as USA Today reported.
However, when the police arrived at the scene, instead of helping Reynolds, they had to arrest her for domestic violence after she admitted that she had hit Williams in the face with a slipper. Read more on our Twitter account @amomama_usa
Daytona Beach police chief Craig Capri told the press that the nonagenarian was not a threat, but that he was obliged to follow the law and arrest her, something that has been disputed.
As the News-Journal reported, Williams didn’t press any charges on her grandmother, and Reynolds was clearly not a threat. Two local attorneys and Florida’s domestic violence statue are against the police actions in the case.

“I got a gran in my bed and I can’t get her out from my bed. I ain’t got nothing to pay bill on air condition all the time for her to go into the room,” Reynolds said when she called 911 to request for help.

“She won’t get out of my bed. I want her out of the bed, I don’t want to get myself in trouble cause she don’t listen after me,” added the desperate woman.

The authorities indicated that they had considerations due to the woman’s age when arresting Reynolds, and she released after spending a night behind bars.
We don’t know if Reynolds had ever been arrested before this unfortunate incident, but she sure didn’t deserve to spend a night in prison for trying to stand up to her granddaughter who certainly wasn’t a child.
But while Reynolds’s request for help to the police backfired, a 99-year grandmother from Netherland actually dreamed of being arrested and it was one of the last things she was still missing from her “Bucket List.”
According to LifeBuzz, Mrs. Annie’s niece wanted to fulfill her grandmother’s strange desire and she managed to get the local police to handcuff and lock up the old lady, who was photographed having a great time as the officers granted her wish.
