Beloved 'Days of Our Lives' matriarch Peggy McCay dead at 90
Emmy Award-winning actress Peggy McCay, who portrayed the "Days of Our Lives" matriarch, Caroline Brady, has died earlier this week due to natural causes.
McCay's co-star for three decades, Deidre Hall, confirmed the news last Tuesday on her personal Facebook account. According to Hall, Peggy passed away peacefully in her sleep at 90-years-old. She remembered nothing but good memories about the actress, whom she says was one of the most passionate people she's ever met.
She recalled a moment where McCay fought fiercely for one of her close friends to get nothing but the best doctors and nurses to care for him during his time of illness, which proved that her passion to help others and be of service to people did not end just in her career in the entertainment industry.
“Our dearest Peggy McCay has left us. She was a friend, an activist and a real scrapper! I remember meeting her at the bedside of a dear, very ill friend. I backed her up as she ferociously took on doctors and nurses to make sure he had the very best care. She fought that hard for all her causes. Passionate and tireless. And how she loved being Caroline!”
Peggy's passing comes just a few weeks after her leading man and longtime friend Frank Parker passed away as well. On September 16, the legendary actor died at the age of 79 due to Parkinson's Disease and Dementia.
Just like Peggy, he portrayed his role on "Days of Our Lives" for more than a decade. In 2008, he retired after his character died on the soap opera, and this was also when his health was reportedly declining.
While Frank's health slowly deteriorated, Peggy was described to be healthy by her co-workers, which made her death a shock to many. According to Stephen Nichols, the last time he and the actress spoke, she talked about getting back to work.
However, while time did not permit that to happen, Peggy McCay has given the world a lot to remember, due to the remarkable work that she's done in numerous shows and movies during her time in the entertainment industry. Definitely, she was an iconic actress who brought many well-loved characters to life. Although she has passed, her work will be remembered by generations to come.
Rest In Peace, Peggy.
