On Monday, the speculation came to rest when the star confessed that they were, indeed, engaged. However, those waiting for a wedding anytime soon will have long to wait.

Rosie O’Donnell, 56, had this to say about her actual wedding day to her fiancée Elizabeth Rooney:

“This is a long time in the future. We both decided that that would be best.”

For more on this story go to our Twitter account @amomama_usa. O’Donnell revealed the news of her engagement at the 15th-anniversary celebration of her organization, Rosie’s Theater Kids, in New York City.

The couple went public in November 2017. The star revealed that they’ve been in a long-distance relationship since as Rooney lives in Boston and she’s in New York.

Despite the distance, the actress said their relationship has “been great.” She praised her partner saying she was “a wonderful woman.”

Rooney, 33, is an Army veteran and was an undefeated boxer during her time of service. O’Donnell added:

“She’s very much an equal, she’s very much her own person and loves what she does. She’s a pretty unbelievable young woman.”

The comedienne also joked about their more than to decade age gap:

“I keep telling her I’m too old for her. But she doesn’t seem to care. She’s like, ‘I was in the Army! I put my life on the line every day you think I don’t know who I want to date?’ I’m like, ‘Alright I guess that’s true.’ She has a lot of good points.”

The age gap also has O’Donnell’s fans confusing Rooney for her daughter Chelsea, 20. She shared what people would say:

“A lot of people say, ‘Oh my god, Chelsea looks so great.’ I’m like, ‘That’s not Chelsea.’ That’s my soon-to-be spouse,” she said. “It’s a little tricky. In the airport people say, ‘Rosie, can I have a picture of you and your daughter?’ She doesn’t seem to think it’s an issue at all. Nobody ever does, but I do sometimes. I was already on Star Search by the time you were born.”

O’Donnell was previously married to Michelle Rounds from 2012 to 2015. She died of an apparent suicide in September 2017 at the age of 46 and the pair shared one daughter, Dakota, 5.

The star also has four children, a son Parker, 23, another son Blake, 18, a daughter Vivienne, 15, and another daughter who is estranged Chelsea, 21. They are with ex-wife Kelli Carpenter-O’Donnell who annulled their marriage in 2004.

Even though she’s a lesbian, O’Donnell came under fire last month for tweeting a homophobic response at Sen. Lindsey Graham. The incident occurred after a third woman accused Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh of sexual misconduct.

The actress wrote in response to Graham:

"[expletive] u closeted idiot - this is the patriarchy exposed - this is reality deal with it!!"

Graham has denied being gay. O’Donnell is currently appearing on Showtime's “SMILF” with co-creator and fellow star Frankie Shaw.
