Who is Shemar Moore?

Shemar Franklin Moore is an African-American actor and former fashion model. He was born on April 20, 1970, in Oakland, California. Moore is of mixed race; his father is African-American, while his mother is of Irish and French-Canadian ancestry. Shemar Moore's mother, Marilyn Wilson, is a business consultant.

His most notable roles include Malcolm Winters on “The Young and the Restless,” and Derek Morgan on “Criminal Minds.” Moore is neither married nor does he have kids.

Early life:

Moore has four siblings: Kosheno Moore, Romeo Moore, Sheburra Moore, and Shenon Moore. With a degree in Mathematics, his mother worked as a teacher in Bahrain and Denmark. Moore’s parents got a divorce when he was a baby. He relocated to Denmark with his mother as an infant, and later to Bahrain at the age of four.

In Bahrain, Moore attended a private school until he was seven. In 1977, Moore’s family returned to the United States to Chico, California. There, his mom worked at a clinic before the family moved again to Palo Alto.

Moore completed his secondary education in Henry M. Gunn High School in Palo Alto. He studied Communications at Santa Clara University and minored in Theatre Arts.

Moore was active in several stage productions and worked both as a model and as a waiter at a coffee shop to sustain himself. Moore had not always planned to be an actor. His initial plan was to be a professional baseball player but an injury during his college days put an end to that dream. After his fate as a sportsman was sealed, Moore moved to Los Angeles to pursue his acting career.

Career:

Moore starred as Malcolm Winters on “The Young and the Restless” for eight years between 1994 and 2002. He returned to the show in 2004, left in September 2005, and made a final brief appearance in 2014.

Moore worked as the host of “Soul Train” from 2000 to 2003 and starred in the 2001 film, “The Brothers.” He also landed roles in “Birds Of Prey,” "Motives," "Diary of a Mad Black Woman," and “The Seat Filler.”

Moore joined the cast of “Criminal Minds” as Derek Morgan in 2005 and left the series on March 23, 2016. The same year, Moore starred in “The Bounce Back,” which marked his debut as a producer and director.

He also voiced “Cyborg/Victor Stone” in DC comics’ superhero film, “Justice League” and its sequels. In 2017, it was announced that Moore would play the lead role in a new CBS series, “S.W.A.T. ”

Moore also has a modeling career. He is signed to DNA Model Management in New York. Moore was on the March 2009 issue of “Men’s Fitness” magazine. Moore has won a total of eight Image Awards and one Daytime Emmy Award.

Personal life:

Shemar Moore has never been married and does not have any kids. He has, however, been linked to famous women such as Toni Braxton, Halle Berry, Ashley Scott (2002-2003), Kimberly Elise (2004-2005), and Lauriane Gilliéron. He also dated soccer player Shawna Gordon from 2015 to 2016. By early 2018, Moore was dating actress Anabelle Acosta.

Moore is close to his mum who has Multiple Sclerosis (MS). He makes appearances at charity events to raise money for MS research.
