Here's Kyra Sedgwick and Kevin Bacon's spicy secret to their happy 30-year marriage

Kyra Sedgwick opened up about her relationship with her husband of 30 years, Kevin Bacon, and about what keeps them going stronger even after these long years.

In an interview with Redbook, Sedgwick mentioned physical intimacy as an important factor in the success of any relationship. She explained that it is important for the relationship because “that desire is always there.”

For Sedgwick, it is also important to remain true with one another and to “keep the fights clean.” That way, despite the bumpy patches, their relationship has always come out unscathed.

The actress summed up the secret behind her successful relationship with Bacon in just two rules: “Keep the fights clean, and don’t have sex with somebody else.”

Sedgwick added that monogamy is a must, it is an unavoidable and basic rule such as ‘Put the toilet seat down.’

She further went on to talk about the importance of spending “quality time” in the bedroom, revealing that she is still attracted to Bacon the same way she did in the past.

"When he walks into a room, I'm still... I mean, my heart gets a little fluttery and I think, Oh! He's so cute. He's so hot. That's literally the first thing I think,” she explained in the interview.

However, Sedgwick stated that it was not just the physical relationship that counted. She advised that couples also must become each other’s emotional support when they’re feeling low.

According to the actress, one should be the encourager when the other one is feeling down. When one’s partner is feeling bad about something, it is important that the other person does not take that issue with the same weight. “If Kev’s upset, I’ll be the cheerleader. Then we switch off,” she added.

Besides all that, Sedgwick also emphasizes the importance of bonding both as a couple and as a family. She explains that the primary relationship has to be the mother and the father and then the kids.

However, Sedgwick also joked toward the end of her interview that she does not listen to celebrities’ advice on how to stay married. She also warned others against doing so.

Meanwhile, in another interview, Bacon opened up about the way he proposed to wife Kyra Sedgwick during Christmas time.

The actor explained that he chose the Christmas Eve 20 years ago as the opportune time to propose Sedgwick.

He put the ring in the toe of the stocking and was surprised when Sedgwick said yes. The couple got married in 1988.

The couple celebrated their 30th anniversary back in September 2018. The couple took to Twitter to announce the momentous day and shared a special video of them singing BeGee’s famous love song, “To Love Somebody.”
