Tamera Mowry says her final goodbye to 18-year-old niece in touching post after memorial service
Tamera Mowry shares a bittersweet post as a final tribute to her late niece after she was laid to rest.
Tamera Mowry’s niece, Alaina Housley has been laid to rest and as a final farewell, the television star shared a touching quote on her Instagram.
“Grief never ends...but it changes. It’s a passage, not a place to stay. Grief is not a sign of weakness, nor a lack of faith..it is the price of love.”
The quote which was sent to Tamera by a friend was accompanied by a caption bidding Alaina goodbye.
“Today we lay you to rest sweet angel,” Tamera wrote and told Alaina how much she’d miss her.
“I’ll miss you forever and your sweet smile. Until we meet again.”
Tamera reveals at the end of her message that it was her friend David who forwarded the quote to her. She says she finds comfort in it when having a bad day.
Alaina was one of the 12 people killed on the night of November 7 after a lone gunman fired random shots inside the Borderline bar in Thousand Oaks. Alaina was attending a college party when the incident happened.
Shortly after the shooting, a suitemate of Alaina informed Tamera and her husband, Adam Housley that Alaina was missing. She told the couple that Alaina was with friends at the bar when the incident happened. Her friends were able to escape and they wondered where Alaina was. Tamera and Adam searched for Alaina and later learned of her death.
In a statement sent to media, the couple confirmed Alaina’s death and expressed their grief over her loss.
“Our hearts are broken. We just learned that our niece Alaina was one of the victims of last night’s shooting at Borderline bar in Thousand Oaks.”
“Alaina was an incredible young woman with so much life ahead of her and we are devastated that her life was cut short in this manner. We thank everyone for your prayers and ask for privacy at this time.”
Since the death of Alaina, Tamera has been paying tribute to her on social media. She even posted a photo of Alaina and her son, Aidan on his sixth birthday and shared how excited Alaina was to attend his party.
“Happy 6th birthday Aden! Alaina was excited to come to your birthday party. But as you said buddy, ‘She lives in your heart now.’ We love you.”
Due to the senseless death of Alaina, Tamera has vowed to do everything she can to promote a safer community. She revealed this to her co-hosts in “The Real” in a letter she sent in her absence.
She also encouraged people to be kind when she appeared on "CBS This Morning" with her husband and Alaina’s father, Arik Housley. Arik reinforced this when he spoke about the message that can be derived from the tragedy.
“To us, it’s to be kind to one another. It’s to put down your technology, put down your phones and look at somebody and have a conversation. It’s not about gun control; this message is about doing something bigger, to be with your community, to love one another.”
May Alaina and the rest of the victims rest in peace.
