Markle showed off with her calligraphy skills, which was good enough to impress Joy Crank, the activities coordinator. Crank, a calligraphy teacher, told the press:

“[Meghan] was so natural and so wonderful to be with. She can join our class any time. We haven’t done any calligraphy here before, but I think she’s inspired us. She is a wonderful person, so genuine. They [the residents] feel truly uplifted. They were able to connect I think; perhaps it’s because of her background.”

The Duchess also paid a visit to the home’s hair salon later that day where she unveiled a plaque to mark her visit.

Markle took the time to speak with the senior residents and connected with them on a personal level, something the staff was genuinely grateful for. The Chairman of the Royal Variety Charity told reporters:

“She was so chatty with all of them. She made an effort to actually in every room say hello to absolutely everyone. It made their Christmas; it brought smiles to their faces.”

It's a little-known fact that the beloved duchess worked as a calligraphy teacher in the past.

She worked as a Paper Source calligraphy instructor from 2004 to 2005 while auditioning for roles in Beverly Hills.

Her former boss said:

"She taught calligraphy and hosted a group of customers and instructed them during a two-hour class on how to do calligraphy. She’s someone who really enjoys the creative aspects of the job, who enjoys helping people and also someone who enjoys making creative projects come to life. Our sales associates are screened for their creativity."
