Melissa McCarthy recalls being fat-shamed when she was asked about her ‘tremendous size’

When you weigh so much, how could you possibly get any roles? It is a question Melissa McCarthy had to deal with at interviews continually.

The comedy star who recently lost 50 lbs recalls how she was frequently fat-shamed in her recent interview with InStyle Magazine. The actress shared all the ridicule and pain she felt during the conversation.

Melissa revealed how hurt; a journalist made her feel, after asking how she manages to get roles with her “tremendous weight;” “I just remember all the blood drained out of me.”Some even went ahead to ask if she was ‘shocked’ to have gotten any work at all in the industry.

The 48-year-old actress is married to Ben Falcone, and they both have two children. McCarthy also stated that she finds it absurd that men are usually not put through the same ordeal.

"It's fascinating because they don't do it to men, not to be a jerk or single him out, but when John Goodman was heavier, did anyone ever talk about his girth?” - Melissa

Still talking about her painful experiences, she said:

“Years ago, I was at a press conference for either The Heat or Tammy and somebody from a very big organization kept asking me, ‘Why do you always feel the need to be so grotesque?”

This interview was a big one with over 100 people present, and the interviewer was sneering. The mother of two told him she didn't understand the question and thereby couldn't answer it.

McCarthy told him he needs to go out more to see that there are real women out there, not the ones with makeup on all the time. The man rudely replied:

“Oh fine, I’m aggressive, call it whatever you want. If you don't want to answer the questions, you shouldn't come to the panel.”

She did not tell him off; according to the mother of two, handling rude people is her forte. She recently secretly served sandwiches at the just concluded Golden Globes to guests; always finds a way to be funny.

Melissa recently lost weight, 50 lbs to be precise; which she showed off on The Jimmy Kimmel show. The actress started working out more after having to do stunts in the movie, Spy; and she looks stunning.
