A QUICK BACKGROUND ON THE COUPLE'S MARRIAGE AND DIVORCE

Cole first filed for divorce in September 2017 after a three-year separation that commenced in October 31, 2014 as she listed in her petition. She also cited irreconcilable differences as the reason. She was married to Gibson in 2011 and they share a son, Daniel Gibson, Jr. She requested joint legal and physical custody of their 8-year-old.

ON THEIR DIVORCE'S LACK OF UPDATE

According to a report by The Blast, there has not been a single document filed regarding the case since October 2017 which has prompted the court to threaten its dismissal. The last update was Gibson’s response to Cole’s filing.

In Cole'’s defense, she claimed the ball is currently in Gibson’s court. The singer clarified this in the comments section of The Shade Room’s Instagram post which featured the current status of her divorce. The singer said Gibson’s camp has been holding up the case by dragging the changes that need to be made in the documents.

“His lawyer needs to change positioning in legal documents. I am not giving him full custody nor no damn spousal support! And I’ve asked him over and over to do so the [ball] is in his court. No pun intended.”

DIPPING HER FEET INTO THE R. KELLY CONTROVERSY

News of Cole’s wavering divorce comes in the heels of her controversial tweets regarding R. Kelly’s involvement in sexual abuses. Though she did not absolve Kelly of his alleged sins, she stressed that his victim’s parents are also partly responsible for the fate of their daughters.

Her comment was in response to Master P’s previous remarks about the recent documentary that slammed R. Kelly and shed light on his sexual abuses. The rapper condemned the parents of the victims who gave interviews in the documentary instead of addressing it in the news. He suggested money became their concern and not the welfare of their children.

Kelly has been haunted by reports of his sexual predatory exploits for years though he repeatedly denied the claims. The issue re-emerged recently with the release of the documentary, “Surviving R. Kelly” and many began to weigh in on the scandal. His own daughter recently broke her silence and seemed to imply that she was aware of the “monster” her father is.
