Laurie Metcalf teases ‘The Conners’ season 2, but she loves not knowing what's coming next
Just after it got canceled due to the lead's racist tweet, Laurie Metcalf is dropping subtle hints that the sitcom is maybe, coming back for season 2.
The actress shared this information at an interview at the just concluded 24th Annual Critics’ Choice Awards at the Barker Hangar in Santa Monica, California, on Sunday.
Metcalf; famously remembered as Jackie on the Roseanne spinoff said:
“I believe it’s going to happen; I think we would do 10 to 13 episodes, something like that. I think the tone would be the same, but I love not knowing what's coming up at all.”
She added that the new season would be different from the first. The comedy series got canceled after Roseanne Barr's insensitive, racist tweet.
ABC's decision to undo Roseanne's renewal came just hours after Laurie who is known to be outspoken, spoke against Barrack Obama's former White House adviser, Valerie Jarrett.
The 65-year-old tweeted:
“Muslim Brotherhood & planet of the apes had a baby=vj.”
The tweet targeted Valerie Jarrett; who was born in Iran and is also black. Metcalf came under severe backlash for the tweet which she later deleted.
President, ABC Entertainment, Channing Dungey said:
“Roseanne’s twitter statement is abhorrent, repugnant and inconsistent with our values, and we have decided to cancel her show.”
The actress did apologize to America and Valerie Jarrett.
Bringing Roseanne back will be a thrill for its ardent lovers; including actress Metcalf who seems to be looking forward to working with actor John Goodman.
In the just concluded Critic Choice Awards, Metcalf was nominated for The Connors alongside her daughter Zoe Perry for her appearance in the comedy sitcom; Young Sheldon. Although they lost the award to Alex Borstein, they were both proud to have been nominated.
“It’s been a cool experience getting to share this with her...she’s been so great and supportive along the whole part of this career I've embarked on, I can't deny that there’s a great privilege in having parents who are established in the field that I'm pursuing.” - Zoe
The mother of four looked dashing in her all-black outfit on the red carpet; a belted black blazer, with black pants and slingbacks.
