Meghan Markle is reportedly the most expensively dressed royal; Duchess Kate is not even close
The newest addition to the royal household has racked up quite the bill, and it is on nothing other than her eye-catching outfits. Meghan Markle is well known for always representing when it comes to style, but this comes at a price and a hefty one at that
'UFO No More,' a one-stop site for all things royal fashion named the 37-year-old Duchess of Sussex as the one with the most expensive wardrobe of 14 royal women, coming ahead of her sister-in-law and Duchess of Cambridge - Kate Middleton.
Her wardrobe for the year 2018 was estimated to cost $509,278 (€479,048), five times that of Middleton.
Meghan's rating comes as no surprise because she has been seen, throughout the year, rocking the big names of fashion like Givenchy, Victoria Beckham, Armani, and David Wu.
As to be expected of a royal, she has had many events for which only high priced quality outfits will do, such as her wedding in May, her first royal tour and many other public engagements. Recently, she wore a £2,600 Oscar de la Renta coat to a West London charity, where she helped job seekers select clothes for interviews.
There were, however, some conditions to UFO's findings. The site only considers newly-worn clothes, turning their noses at repeats. Also, the fashion items used in their calculations include those that can be priced or estimated. Thus, out of the 323 new pieces that she donned, only 254 of them were summed up to give her final figure.
Furthermore, the site does not include gifts from family members or government officials. Meghan's Cartier reflection wedding bracelets and earrings, valued at $233,000, haven't yet been ascertained as gifts or not, although, UFO included these items in her estimation. Even if this weren't the case, she would still retain top spot with a wardrobe value of $276,278.
An important point to note is that the estimation did not include her wedding gown because it was custom-made by Givenchy, leaving it without a retail price.Another possible event that could have warranted princely priced outfit was the Duchess of Cambridge's birthday party.
Kate Middleton organized a private celebration for close friends for her birthday, but Markle was conspicuously absent from the event. Her absence fuelled rumors of a Kate-Meghan feud that the tabloids had dreamt up. However, the real reason for Markle not showing up was a scheduling conflict.
A royal source revealed to ELLE that after spending Christmas and Boxing Day at Sandringham, Meghan and Harry left Norfolk to Oxfordshire for a little rest before returning to London, where Meghan was to visit one of her patronages.
Another source said about the alleged feud, 'the stories of the two duchesses having a major ongoing feud are just overblown. They have enormous respect for each other and are both devoted to representing Her Majesty in the humanitarian and charitable work they do.'
