In December last year, the “Today” show’s fourth-hour Kathie Lee Gifford shocked everyone when she announced she was leaving. Her departure is set to be on April 7, 2019.

Speculators quickly decided that the most likely person to replace her was former President George W. Bush’s daughter. Insiders claimed that NBC executives were “strongly considering" the contributor and correspondent for the position.

“The likelihood of it going to her is high. She’s very well liked here [at the show and network].” said an insider.

If she does get the position, she would take over Gifford’s fourth-hour post. Gifford is leaving the program on the 11-year anniversary of her hosting the show.

"I have something to share with everybody and it's bittersweet, as these things always are, but I've been here almost 11 years. Thought I would stay one year. Something happened along the way. Fell in love with a beautiful Egyptian goddess and now, when it's our 11th anniversary, I'm going to be leaving the Today show.” Gifford had said in her announcement.
