"They found that he had two tumors in his tonsils and we're so grateful that it was contained to the tonsils and they were able to take both tonsils out."
The clip starts with Berry and his wife of 25 years, Robin, speaking about their Christmas tour, and the wonderful time they had had performing for friends and fans.
Then gently, Berry revealed that their 2019 has started with a "hiccup." He explained how his cancer was diagnosed and the battle he still faces to defeat it.
Berry has shared that his faith has been his strength throughout his ordeal.
Berry confided that in November he started getting a catch in his throat, and it wouldn't go away. He noticed his tonsils were swollen and went to his doctor who prescribed antibiotics and steroids.
When he didn't improve by January, Berry's wife insisted he should see an ear, nose and throat specialist.
Berry's doctor ordered a CAT scan and found two tumors in his tonsils. Berry's tonsils were removed, and he has revealed that fortunately, his cancer has a cure rate of 90%.
Berry will now undergo five weeks of cancer treatment which will force him to alter some of his scheduled concerts.
Berry has shared that his faith has been his strength throughout his ordeal, and he has asked his fans for their prayers and support.
"There is nothing greater that John needs right now than to hear from you guys that love him very much."
This is John Berry's second bout with a serious illness. In 1994, Berry was rushed to the hospital in Atlanta, after he blacked out during a concert. Doctors found a cyst in his brain and removed it, and the singer recovered fully.
John Berry's career took a new direction when he was contacted by Chuck Howard who had produced several of Berry's albums such as “Kiss Me in the Car,” “Your Love Amazes Me,” “You and Only You,” “She’s Taken a Shine.”
Howard asked Berry to perform the vocals for the theme song of the movie he was producing, "Beautifully Broken":
“Man, I’ve got the song and I’ve got the movie. I sent you a rough cut of the film. Take a look at it. I’ll send you the song tomorrow when I get to the office. Let me know what you think of the movie.”
Berry started watching the movie which is about faith, and the interwoven lives of families in Rwanda and Nashville.
The country star was moved to tears by the rough cut, and immediately agreed to sing the theme, even before he heard the song.
John Berry performed "Beautifully Broken" and the song has been lauded as one of his most moving renditions.
