The comedian and TV host had the power pop duo as guests to celebrate her birthday in her show, and Cyrus paid a sweet tribute to her by wearing earrings that remind everybody of why DeGeneres is such an inspiration.

26-year-old Miley Cyrus took to the stage alongside her new favorite collaborator, 43-year-old British musician and record producer Mark Ronson, to play their 2018 hit “Nothing Breaks Like a Heart,” as a birthday gift to DeGeneres.

“Happy birthday, Ellen!” Cyrus said after finishing the heartfelt performance on which her powerful voice delighted both the audience and the host, who praised the singer’s talent.

Cyrus had a meaningful gesture toward DeGeneres, as she wore custom-made earrings featuring miniature versions of the now famous 1997 Time magazine cover featuring DeGeneres by the time she came out as gay.

“This my special birthday earring for Ellen. I have her Time magazine cover, one of the million reasons why you’re just inspiring, and I’m always happy to be here and be on your show.”

DeGeneres also took some time to remind her audience of Ronson’s many achievements in the music industry.

“You just won a Golden Globe for Shallow from A Star Is Born and you were just nominated for an Oscar, that's amazing, and also nominated for three Grammy Awards as well,” DeGeneres said to him.

DeGeneres now historical decision to have her fictional character Ellen Morgan from the sitcom “Ellen” come out as a lesbian, becoming the first gay lead character on American network television took her to the cover of Time magazine.

While she had spent sometime ignoring rumors about her sexuality and insisted on separating her public and private life, DeGeneres believed her coming out was going to set a good example.

She risked it all to bring that important change to the TV industry more than 20 years ago, and while she lost the support of some of her sponsors, but in the end, the decision turned her into an LGTB icon.

DeGeneres was a true pioneer of the normalization of same-sex relationships in the mainstream, and she took the debate around sexual diversity to a new level with her courage.

This was part of the reasons why former US President Barack Obama gave her the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2016.

In 2003, one year after her sitcom came to an end, DeGeneres started her own talk show. Her comedic skills, charisma, and sensitivity have turned her into one of the most important voices on today’s American television.

This is why when DeGeneres revealed she is considering retiring from her show, her brother Vance, who is a comedian as well, urged her not to do it, as he believes America needs her positivity and humor.

This comes into conflict with Ellen’s feelings, as she has grown a little tired of the attention, and would like to go back to her roots as a stand-up comedian.
