Oprah celebrates 65th birthday aboard $300M yacht blowing out a candle on a ‘delish’ cake
On January 29, Oprah celebrated her 65th birthday in idyllic tropical climates on a beautiful yacht in St. Barts.
The queen of talk spent her special day on board David Geffen’s $300 million mega yacht, Rising Sun.
Joined by her best friend Gayle King, King’s son Will Bumpus, another male friend and the American business magnate, they spent several days onboard as they enjoyed a small and intimate celebration. Gayle shared some photos of the lavish party on social media with the caption:
“Happy birthday DEAR @oprah who did NOT want a birthday cake, so I requested the kind I like! It was delish perfect for the birthday girl!”
The yacht docked in Gustavia for two days before heading to St. Martin on Wednesday, as they celebrated the special day.
During their time on the yacht, the group also watched ‘Leaving Neverland,’ the documentary about Michael Jackson’s sexual assault allegations. Gayle took to social media to share her thoughts as she wrote:
“Just watched ALL FOUR hours of ‘Leaving Neverland’… powerful, compelling & a game changer for those who have been afraid to speak up on child sex abuse. My heart goes out to Wade Robson & James Safechuck. Thank YOU for sharing your pain it will make a difference. Bravo to producer Dan Reed… I’m still reeling.”
Oprah herself is no stranger to sexual abuse, as she shared her story on her talk show in 1986. When Oprah was nine years old, she got molested by a 19-year-old cousin only to be repeatedly assaulted by an uncle and a family friend for years after that. At the age of 24, Oprah told family members about the abuse, but apparently, they did not believe her.
Ten years prior, when Oprah was 14 years old, she got pregnant and gave birth to a baby boy prematurely, who consequently passed away shortly after being born.
The world learned about Oprah’s secret pregnancy in 1990 after a family member went to the National Enquirer for a handsome payday.
Oprah never revealed which family member betrayed her when she wrote about the experience for her magazine, ‘O’s’ February 2007 issue.
However, it was Associated Press who later reported that it was Oprah’s deceased half-sister who, as she wrote, “sat in a room, told them the story of my hidden shame and left their offices $19,000 richer.”
Loved by millions across the globe, Oprah became a household name for various reasons. Her talk show, which is also the longest running daytime talk show ever, discussed issues previously hushed about.
Her humanitarian efforts and ability to ask tough question made her popular among women especially, but her talents also stretched to successful media publications and acting, as she can also boast with an Academy Award nomination.
Oprah also shares her birthday with another big star who turned 74 on Tuesday, Tom Selleck. The famous actor is best known for his roles series like ‘The Closer,’ and ‘Blue Bloods,’ and also starred in the longtime running soap opera, ‘The Young and the Restless.’
Happy Birthday to Oprah Winfrey and Tom Selleck!
