Monday was the very first audition day for “The Voice” and new coach John Legend’s first appearance. His co-judge Blake Shelton made sure it was memorable.

The country singer quickly blocked Legend from standing a chance to acquire a contestant. Shelton didn’t even try to act modest or sorry about the savage move.

This week, John Legend appeared on the first Blind audition day of “The Voice’s” season 16 episode. While contestant, Gyth Rigdon, 24, sang his heart out to Dobie Gray’s "Drift Away," Blake Shelton became the first coach to turn around.

Kelly Clarkson and Legend both turned around at the same time. However, Shelton gestured to Clarkson alerting her that he’d blocked Legend and the pair had a laugh.

Noticing the back-and-forth, Legend peeked down in front of him and realized what was happening. After Rigdon was done singing, Adam Levine also turned around and noticed that Legend had been blocked.

Disappointedly, the singer exclaimed to the contestant, "They don't want us to be together!" He then asked, "How am I the first person blocked?"

Rigdon sympathized with Legend noting that he sang country and pop. Revealing himself to be the culprit, Shelton joked, "Too bad John didn't [turn] -- Oh, you did!"

Taking the events in his stride, the “All of Me” singer joked: "We're gonna call him 'Block' Shelton." In the end, Shelton was chosen by Rigdon to be his coach.

Trying to create some sort of peace between him and Shelton, Legend added, "Blake, we're just getting to know each other... I think he's trying to get in everybody's heads."

Levine exclaimed, "Trying?" While Shelton chose to add salt to the wound by hilariously moonwalking across Legend's "blocked" name on “The Voice” stage.

“The Voice” returned this week with an hour-long episode. Legend officially replaced singer, Jennifer Hudson, who was a coach and judge last season.

The singer is married to Chrissy Teigen and the pair are parents to Luna and Miles.
