Remember This Brownstone Singer? She Tragically Died at 46 in a Freak Accident at Her Own LA Home
Back in the '90s, Charmayne Maxwell was hitting the charts as part of the R&B group, Brownstone. Unfortunately, she passed away at the young age of 46 after a freak accident at home.
Charmayne Maxwell found fame in the early 1990s after forming Brownstone with Monica "Mimi" Doby and Nicole "Nicci" Gilbert. After doing an acapella audition, they were the first group to sign to Michael Jackson's MJJ Music.
By 1995, they released their debut album "From the Bottom Up." It featured hit songs like "Grapevyne," "Pass the Lovin," and their cover of the Eagles' "I Can't Tell You Why."
REMEMBERING BROWNSTONE
However, if there's one song the group is best known for, it'd be their 1994 hit "If You Love Me." It peaked at number 8 on the Billboard Hot 100 and on the UK singles chart. It is also considered a hallmark of R&B's '90s golden era.
The song was nominated for a Grammy and was later covered by British soul singer Jessie Ware. In 2013, the group tried to make a comeback on "R&B Divas: Atlanta."

A FREAK ACCIDENT
Unfortunately, in March 2015, Maxwell was found bleeding and unresponsive by her music producer husband, Carsten Soulshock. She was at home with her young son, with whom she attended a soccer game prior to the accident.
It was later ascertained that Maxwell had fallen and cut her neck on a wine glass in a freak accident. She was alive when her husband found her and was transported by paramedics to Cedars Sinai Hospital.
HER UNFORTUNATE SITUATION
Medical authorities revealed that Maxwell died in the ambulance on the way to the hospital and was pronounced dead on arrival. Doctors explained that the singer suffered a cut in the carotid artery.
While with the severing of some arteries, an adult can bleed out in 6 to 8 minutes, with the severing of a carotid artery, a person can bleed out in less than a minute.
SURVIVED BY HER HUSBAND AND SON
Maxwell is survived by her son, Nicolaj Schack, whom she shares with Soulshock. Soulshock is a Danish music producer and songwriter who has produced several hit songs for artists such as Tupac, Whitney Houston, Usher, Monica, and Brandy.
They shared a statement following the tragic accident, expressing how devastated they were at the sudden loss. "She was the center of our world as a devoted mother and wife," it read.
Despite being gone for six years, her loved ones continue to remember her for the beautiful soul that she was. Her husband continues to post tributes to her on Instagram on special occasions.
