Back in the 70s, Diana was one of the biggest names in music. She was everywhere back then - awards shows, tours, and even film festivals. At the prestigious Cannes Festival, she arrived looking stunning in an all-white ensemble as she was welcomed by an eager crowd that took photos of her as she carried a bouquet of flowers. Evident in the background is a huge "Welcome Diana Ross" poster that proved just how much of a big name she was at the time.

The next picture showed her wearing a more formal outfit, posing during dinner in an oversized hat. Diana's bob-cut hair was straightened, and she smiled casually for the camera.

Classic Performances

Diana Ross has done countless performances through the decades, but one of the most iconic remains to be when she and Lionel Richie performed at the 54th Academy Awards.

Even before Diana became a solo artist and was a member of The Supremes, people already knew that she'd be one of the best singers ever. This goes the same for Lionel, who began his career with The Commodores before beginning his solo career in 1982. Since then, the two have become timeless music icons.

Right when Richie emerged as a solo artist, he and Diana performed a duet that continues to be talked about up until today. They released a song together entitled "Endless Love" just a year before the ceremony, and it only made sense for them to perform it.

A decades-long friendship

Prior to their performance, Diana refused to rehearse because she preferred being spontaneous, which made Lionel pretty nervous. Thanks to their breathtaking performance, the song topped music charts everywhere and was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Original Song and a Golden Globe Award.

Lionel, 69, and Diana, 74, continue to be good friends until today and are still both very active in the entertainment industry. Ross continues to do concerts, shows, and events, while Richie is a part of the judging panel on "American Idol."
