‘Star Trek’s Nichelle Nichols Allegedly Heard 'Screaming for Her Life' in Fight with Son
Nichelle Nichols, Lt. Uhura on the original cult series "Star Trek," was heard screaming for help in an audio recording.
An Atlanta news station, WGCL-TV, has obtained an audio recording which is reportedly of "Star Trek" actress Nichelle Nichols, screaming for help.
The actress who is famous for playing Lt. Nyota Uhura on the original series in the 1960s, is said to be suffering from dementia.
“You get your hands off me! You’re trying to get rid of me!”
DISTURBING AUDIO RECORDING CONTAINS PLEAS FOR HELP
Allegedly, Gilbert Bell, a longtime friend of Nichols, gave the station video and audio recordings of the actress speaking about her son's efforts to gain control of her estate.
Nichols made history in the series' third season when she shared TV's first interracial kiss with William Shatner/ Captain Kirk.
ANGUISHED VOICE PROCLAIMS INDEPENDENCE
The voice Bell recorded can be heard proclaiming her independence and laying claim to her autonomy.
“I’m the boss of me, Gil. He’s not the boss of me. I didn’t give permission to have conservatorship over me. I didn’t know what he was doing.”
LA POLICE INVESTIGATES
After the revelation of the audio recording, Los Angeles Police Department detectives visited the "Star Trek" star's home and interviewed her, and her son. It is unknown if the investigation is ongoing.

Nichols, who has had several health issues, including a minor stroke in 2015, has been active in the convention circuit, meeting thousands of fans every year.
The "Star Trek" actress was an icon for the Civil Rights movement for portraying a black woman in a future society devoid of racial discrimination and was praised for her work by Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

NICHELLE NICHOLS DIAGNOSED WITH DEMENTIA
"Star Trek" fans were shocked and saddened to learn that Nichelle Nichols, who played Lieutenant Uhura in the original series has been suffering from dementia.
The 86-year-old actress has “moderate progressive dementia” which results in the loss of her short-term memory. This includes a deficiency in understanding abstractions, such as place, time, as well as immediate recall.
This information was confirmed by Dr. Meena Makhijani, who specializes in osteopathic medicine and has been treating Nichols for the last 3 years.
Nichols' son, Kyle Johnson has taken legal measures to assign four fiduciaries to his mother to avoid other people taking advantage of her condition.
